Quote from the article
"Delta chose the Airbus planes after battling Boeing in a trade dispute involving another narrow-body plane, Bombardier Inc.’s C Series. Boeing persuaded the U.S. Commerce Department to slap 300 percent duties on the new Canadian plane, contending that Bombardier sold the C Series to Delta at well below cost."

Bombardier was selling below cost which upset Boeing. Now there is a 300% tariff on Bombardier. Boeing faces losing contracts over convincing the Commerce Department to impose the tariff I wouldn't pay it. 300%

nuts

Poor play by the Boeing + the US government on the C series issue.
Boeing already conveyed UAL to convert their C series with the 737 at a very cheap price, but the Bombardier didn't say a thing.
Boeing got what they deserved. Boeing doesn't produce the airplane that can match the performance and the capability of the C series yet they called it unfair.
Boeing just tried to kill off the Bombardier and they have failed miserably by letting Airbus taking just over 1/2 of the Bombardier LOL

This is an interesting development, not so much about the airframe but the engine choice. The Pratt GTF has some issues and the GE LEAP has been chosen 10 to 1 over the Pratt. I hope Pratt can get the reliability up by the time we take delivery.

It makes sense, since the CS100s Delta is getting will have similar engines made by Pratt (not identical but close) But regardless, all the newly designed engines as of late have been having issues, as is evidenced by the posts on Av Herald. Like vehicles, no matter how much testing and quality control goes into a new design, there will always be bugs to work out after production begins.

This is so simple to the average aviation fan, bring the 757 back and you won’t continue to let Airbus win these large orders. The decision to stop producing the 757 continues to be a huge disadvantage for Boeing. Why they chose it over the 767 to put on the chopping block is beyond me. Neither plane was selling in the early 2000’s and at least they had the 777 to fill the gap for the 767.

There has been some talk that Boeing might bring back the 767 program as there is an airline out there that expressed interest in placing a large 767 order if they were willing to bring the 767 production back to meet that order.. Well something along those lines.

Those lawyers in Chicago will have some sleepless nights coming up

Delta also gets to do third party maintenance on the PW engines... essentially becoming a partner and more revenue coming in. Doubt GE would have allowed that

Channing is spot on. One of the deal breakers between GE and Delta was proprietary GE information. Delta wanted access, GE said no.
Delta is already one of the biggest Pratt 2000 & 4000 engine shops in the world, so adding the GTF simply expands that relationship. Plus, the engine shops are big revenue centers as Delta does engine overhauls for many customers. In fact, all of TOC has done an impressive job turning itself into a revenue generating facility when most maintenance facilities are considered cost centers.
In fact, the engine shop is taking over all of TOC 1 to handle the massive Trent XWB on the 350. As they say, "things are happening!"
