Picked up my son on Saturday and had some time to do some planespotting from the Hourly Deck. Lots of heavies for an early Saturday. Mostly the European flights arrive after lunch and depart in the evenings.

The early AM sky was a bit hazy for a cold morning so not the best backdrop for aircraft photos. Took these with a 200mm zoom lens on my Samsung NX1100. Unedited.

That new tower is massive. Drew, are they planning on demoing the existing tower?

Yes. That old tower is gone. The new tower will be the 2nd tallest in the US from what I understand.

In place of the old tower, I believe the airport plans to build another terminal for drop-offs combined with a hotel and conference center. Eventually, after the light rail is extended down Wilkinson Blvd. there will be a train that goes over the parking lots and then dives down under the terminals to beneath the main terminal and then extended out to the future island terminal when they get rid of 5/23. Its insane. It must be $6 Billion they plan to spend in the next 25 years, if not more.

Great shots. I have family that lives near Stanley, northwest of CLT. When I visit, depending on the winds, I can watch a lot of traffic over the house. Thanks Andrew.

I used to live in Stanley too. Now I'm in Fort Mill, still close to the airport. Before 9/11 you could park at the end of the runway and watch them fly overhead. Now you have to go to a different area, but it's still fun.
Do they have a Cityscape scenery pack for Charlotte in X-Plane 11? The airport is great, but flying over the city with generic buildings kinda ruins it for me.
