Hey, I am currently on the b738, but I recently passed the A320 and Crj-200 first officer tests, does that mean I am eligible of flying those aircrafts now...? And also I have had over 500hrs flying the A330 and the B777, prior to joining DVA, so...is there anyway I can fly those aircrafts, instead of waiting for my hours to build up using ACARS...I already know I have the experience to fly those aircrafts

Takbir, DVA doesn't use hours to determine promotion eligibility. We use flight legs. You need to fly at least 10 legs in the 737 using ACARS to record the flight, take and pass the Captain's exam, then you can apply to transfer equipment programs. As a 737 FO, you are currently in a Stage 2 program. The A330 is a Stage 3 program while the B777 is a Stage 4 program. I would recomend making Captain in your current program then apply for the A330 program. As far as being able to file flight reports in the A320 or CRJ, no you are not yet rated in those types. You will have to log a minimum of 5 legs on ACARS, then take and pass the check ride for those programs. One thing you may want to do is to read the promotions manual and NOTAM #36 as it specifically deals with promotions.

One other thing, for a flight to count toward promotion, it must be flown in 1x, not acceleration.

Also, for jet aircraft, the flight has to be over 150nm to be eligible for promotion.

Chase, I got my A330 rating via the 767, a Stage 3 aircraft. And at AFVA it's classified as a Stage 3 aircraft. Our promotions manual is a bit older and doesn't have all the current info in it.

So...in order to fly the a320 or crj, I have to log atleast 5 legs using ACARS on the b738, then I can ask for a check ride for the crj or 320...?

Yes. Make sure you click on "Request Additional Rattings" in your pilot center, not "Transfer Equipment." And the flight legs must meet the criteria for promotion (flown in 1x and at least 150nm)

It is DVA's policy to not discuss check ride specifics ....with that said, with a little practice anyone can pass a check ride. Where people mess up is either 1) They don't practice and just fly it like they stole it or 2) Failure to follow check ride instructions. Take your time, read all of the instructions and you'll be fine.

Takbir, DVA does not post CR specifics for general review. The CP or ACP of the program you're requesting a rating in will tell you what they want you to do. They will assign a flight for you and give you any specific instructions on how to fly it. Pay close attention to the requirements and anything that will result in an automatic failure. Fly a few practice flights and you'll be fine.

Adding to what Kevin is telling you, you can use ACARS for your practice flights.
Set up the flight plan exactly as the CR Instructions tell you, then tick the box marked "This is a Training Flight."
You will get all of the reports you would get from an actuall flight, but it will not go up for approval. That box is a very valuable tool to give yourself a "self assesment."

Takbir, we at AFVA, like DVA, do not discuss checkrides in the cooler, you email the relevant Chief Pilot/ ACP of the program with questions. The CP/ACP will assign a checkride to you once you pass the first officer exam for that aircraft and request a checkride- to qualify for the checkride you have to have logged at least 5 flights in an aircraft one stage below eg you are a 737 F/o- to do the CRJ checkride, log 5 approved -above 150nm, no time acceleration-flights in the 737 using ACARS, then click on "request additional ratings" in your pilot centre-as the CRJ is one stage below you, you can do it this way without doing any more f/o tests. With the A330- it should be one stage above you-it is this way at AFV-I would recommend getting your 738 Captain rank before requesting additional ratings in the A330-it's going to be easier to re-request a CR if you don't pass first time- with the Captain test, log 10 flights in the 737, then take the 738 Captain exam via your pilot center. After you request a checkride, we will assign a checkride to you which needs to be completed in 2 weeks- this cr contains all the info you need to do the flight-if you do not understand anything, please email the CP/ACP of the program- we are always more than happy to help! If you then pass the checkride, you are more than welcome to request a transfer to that program-hope this helps!

I am currently a 737 F/O (Stage 2), and I want to get additional ratings in CRJ (Stage 1) and MD-88 (Stage 2 also). The promotion criteria is quite conflicting:
"You will not be eligible for equipment type transfers or additional ratings in equipment type programs in Stage 2 or above until you become eligible for promotion to Captain in the B737-800 or another Stage 2 equipment program.
"You will not be eligible for equipment type transfers or additional ratings in new equipment type programs in Stage 2 and below until you have completed 5 of the 10 Flight legs in the B737..."
So for a rating in another Stage 2 equipment, do I need to become eligible for promotion for Captain (ie 10 flights), or just 5 flights? The word "Stage 2" is in both of them.

Edmund, to get an additional rating in the CRJ, you will have to log 1 more flight using ACARS to request the additional rating. For the MD-88, I believe you will be eligible to request an additional rating after one more flight as well, since it is in the same stage as you. However, I would recomend waiting till you are a Captain in the 737 to request those ratings. This way you can concentrate on your current aircraft and master it first. You don't have to of course, thats just what I would do.

In your situation, it is simplest for you to complete 10 logged flights in the 737 using ACARS, then take the Captain exam found in your pilot centre, found under the heading pilot testing and promotion, then look for testing center-click on that and take the Captain exam B737 in the same way you did the f/o exam. Once you pass, you'll have some options-you could request a checkride for the CRJ for additional ratings-under the same heading as your exam, then look for request additional ratings and click on that and find the CRJ on the drop down menu for the equipment program, then click on the heading "submit additional rating request"-or you could also request an additional rating for the MD88 the same way-the choice is yours, also you could do one of them first then the other as long as you have your Captain rating for the 737-it's just easier being a Captain then requesting a checkride for the same stage or above or below-it's what I used to do- it will also be easier this way to re-request a checkride just in case you don't pass it first go. I started CRJ then went to 737-A320 then 767 (DVA) then A330 (AFVA) then 747 then 777 then A380 then Concorde. Hope this helps!
