DEVELOPMENT ISSUE #6,199 - Event Credit and Auto Approval
Reported by Jim Rose (DVA9792) on 03/17/2026 08:36 ET
Assigned To Luke Kolin (DVA043)
Issue Status Fixed on 03/24/2026 09:45 ET
Issue Priority Low
Airlines Delta Virtual Airlines
Security Public

Issue Type Bug
Issue Description Did not catch the first one, but event credit not issued for event flights. Did not sign up for the event, and when System auto approval of the Pirep occurs, it bypasses the flag prompting a reviewer to validate the flight met Event criteria.

I did not see a new requirement that a sign up must occur for event credit.

Hello Jim, if you want it to be auto validated as an Event flight you need to sign up early. As far as I can remember it was always like that. In any case I already prompted the event flight for this flight https://www.deltava.org/pirep.do?id=0x1cd3f7 Cheers

It wasn't always like that. I can attest as I ran events for a time. This issue is recent and likely due to the advent of automatic Pirep approval. Are you advocating to bugger the flight so the system won't auto-approve it? I can control some variables so the system will not approve, in which case it will be sent to a reviewer who will see the flag. I would rather not do that.

Jim, not trying to argue here—just sharing my perspective based on experience validating flights over the past few years.

As far as I can tell, the current behavior is consistent with how validations have typically worked. When a pilot doesn’t sign up for an event but still flies it, during validation we usually get a dropdown option to associate that flight with a relevant event. I actually saw that same option available on your flight.

From a validator’s standpoint, this doesn’t appear to be a new issue, but rather the standard process still applying—even with the recent auto-approval changes. That said, I understand your point about the system bypassing manual review, and maybe there’s something on the automation side that could be improved.

Perhaps Luke can weigh in on whether any adjustments are feasible there.

Correct. Perhaps I stated my case imperfectly. I love the auto validation of flights. I hope that some kind of script can be incorporated into that process for events flown where a signup is not detected. I hesitate to sign up for a flight if I am unsure I will have the time to honor that commitment.

Glad we’re on the same page here. Let’s wait for Luke’s input before closing, in case there’s something to adjust on the automation side. Cheers

What behavior would you want to see?

I doubt that Q for me but here are the possibilities I envision:

When a flight is flown matching the criteria for an event, and the system does not locate the flight assignment generated when a pilot hasn't signed up for the event: then the event flag is triggered and flight report approval is sent to manual. The chief and asst. pilots can then apply the event credit when appropriate.

Conversely , if it is possible, with the event criteria met, credit applied for the event, and automatic PIREP approval.

Whichever is best for you all will work.

This is actually show it _should_ operate - there was a bug in that I was not loading routes for possible events so the validation was silently failing because the route didn't match. Fixed in 990.1.
