I use this suggestion from the original post:

Like many, been trying to get game to run better. I have a GTX-1080. Running on High End, I get 30fps and some dips below that.
Today I found something strange. I hooked up a second monitor, pressed V to bring up the map, then popped it out and moved it to second monitor. Immediately my GPU went from 95% to 70% and my FPS jumped to 60.
Soon as I move the map back to main screen and either turn it off or “pop it back in” to the game, GPU goes way up again and back to lower FPS.
With this method I can even run Ultra and get about 30fps.
Any explanation? I’m not complaining. For now this seems like a way to run by he game a little better for some reason.
Someone else said also that playing in Windowed and simply moving the map to the desktop does the trick as well.
I typically pop the ATC window onto another screen, which also makes it quite handy. I like using the FS2020 ATC for taxi clearances since it can be a bit of a mess to taxi around larger airports when you don't have charts (i.e. non-US airports).
