I looked through some logs to see where different pilots are flying. I noticed flights from new york to florida, then a flight will be filed from dallas to las vegas then a flight from moscow to canada. If we are to be Delta pilots, how is this possible to get to so many cities in one day without flying to the departure airport?? I am sure this will ruffle some feathers of the pilots, if so, so be it. If we are to act like real world pilots that fly for a company, then we should act like it. If you fly into Dallas, then you should fly out of Dallas. I am not saying I am not guilty of this also, but I do try to make my flights consistent. Pilots are getting accomplishments completed, way to easy if their just flying into airports from a location, without going to the outbound location. If I have made any of you mad because of this post, it is not my position. I just think we could all make this a little more realistic, if we actually act like real pilots and not just be logging flights to get hours and accomplishments completed.

This is the way I do my flying as well so it takes me quite a while and a lot of legs to complete accomplishments but in the end after all that effort it feels like I really achieved something. It is a standard I hold myself to but as far as I know there is nothing in the DVA manual requiring point to point routes and it is left up to each individuals preference. As far as realism goes, a flight crew in the real world would never arrive at a destination and then hop in a jet for another alliance carrier to complete the next leg needed, but to achieve our accomplishments we have to do just that otherwise there is no way to get the necessary arrivals/departures in. Everyone probably has different views on this topic but I believe the point is to get everyone to enjoy their flying here, I personally don't worry a bit about how everyone else is doing it and hence enjoy being a part of this VA in my own way, the way I see it earning the accomplishments are not getting us a virtual pay raise but rather for our own sense of achievement!!!

I also enjoy my simulated airline career by flying like Darrell and Del. Since I'm pretending to fly I also pretend that I'm part of an airline where all employees follow the same rules. But DVA is a simulation of an airline that offers its members the ability to choose how they do their pretending. This allows for more members, more learning, and overall more enjoyment. Members can choose which part of reality they want to simulate. It may seem unfair to see some achieve accomplishments not simulating flying like I do, but I think their level of enjoyment and simulating is just different than mine and I know they're enjoying their experience.

Everyone is different. I spent most of my DVA career flying whatever routes I wanted with no rhyme or reason, then about a year ago I decided to start doing a connected logbook. For me, this has added a nice challenge planning legs and a real-world feel, but I can't convincingly argue it's "better" than any other strategy... that's the beauty of a virtual world!

The best part about DVA is the flexibility. You can be as realistic as you want, or just have some fun. There are many other more "realistic" VAs with strict rules out there if that's your thing.. I personally connect each of my flights to each other but it's not a requirement.

To be fair, many airlines will deadhead a crew from one airport to another if they need to for a variety of operational reasons.
It's not that unusual for a crew's consecutive flights to not land and depart from the same airport.

Freedom has always been attached to a little key that opens a can of worms lol. Every single post here are recorded proof of the professionalism and care that the DVA family exercises every single day. I can't really write much more because every single one of the posts above mine perfectly express my point of view in regards to this matter. Well done fellows

I also fly a connected logbook now for at least 2-3 years, maybe longer. I've lost count. Also I fly every flight is on VATSIM, and ALWAYS at 1X. That's my choice.
I also begin and end every flight at a gate or at small airports, my best guess as to where a commercial flight would park.
But, to each his/her own...
Kyle put it well above. Paraphrasing: "That's the beauty of DVA. Flexibility. Do it as real as you can or just have fun."

This, 100%. That is what has kept me here for so many years...the freedom to be as real, or not real, as one wants. These days I try to fly as realistic as possible, and as part of that I do connect my flights (with some exceptions, like the occasional long haul that isn't from where I last landed because no international flights are scheduled out of Columbus Ohio LOL), but when I started I was far from that, in SO many ways. I think everyone makes their own path, and the achievements aren't really meant to be a contest of who takes things the most seriously. Just a list of cool flying ideas to check off.
There are a thousand ways to enjoy this hobby. I would have a hard time saying that any of them are wrong, as long as the pilot is enjoying what they're doing then that's all I care about.

I try to do a connected logbook as well. To me it makes it more interesting, but everyone plays their own style and way. My question is for those that keep a connected log book, do you do this for online events as well? Or will you jump city's to do events and then resume where you were in your logbook?

Patrick, I usually keep it connected for events, but have broken that a few times when I really want to participate in an event, but I'm too far away to fly to it in time. I've also broken the connected log for check rides.

I wish I had started doing the "connected logbook" sooner. It really adds a unique challenge to planning out flights (and re-planning when real-world obligations get in the way). I will say, it does add a lot of time to things like accomplishments (since you have to do a few flights to get to a new airport).
