I just installed GEX, and I love it.
The problem (or complaint) I have is "the edge of the world." That line between ground textures and oblivion.
This is FS9 and all sliders are maxed out. You can see this in the ground as well as the ocean.
How do I get rid of that line?

John - what you are seeing is called 'The iron cross' in FS terms. If you go to overhead view and zoom out you willl get a better idea of its extent. A good way to start getting rid of it is to set your visibilty (sight distance) down to 60sm. If you have a registered version of FSUIPC you can also play with the vis settings in there. If you have Active Sky you can set vis to 59 or less sm which helps even more. I use a combination of the three and very rarely experience this now. If you google FS Iron Cross there should be plenty of info out there. Come back if you need any help or email me directly.
Edit: also make sure you have your terrain settings to max in FS.

J - to add to my edit - just to eliminate to possibility that its a terrain distance problem, just check that the following lines are in your fs9.cfg fille under the [terrain section]
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.5000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.500000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4
Line 1 is configurable from within FS9, but whilst your editing the cfg you may as well stick it in there. The last three values are the highest that fs9 recognises, I have seen cfg files with higher values in there but personally I have never seen any difference.
The 'iron cross' is hard coded into fs so there is no way that I know of to get rid of it, I've always tried to hide it up. It obviously becomes more noticeable the higher you fly.
Holger Sandmann of Misty Fjords fame posted a very good article on this problem a while ago, I used to have it bookmarked, but many reformats have meant that I have lost the link, I'll see if I can find it.
Do try playing with the vis settings too - imho it can make a world (not the edge of it!!) of difference.
Edit: googling fs9 iron cross now seems to bring up hits on 'The rise of flight', best avoid doing that!

This is the file you need. If literally softens the horizon. You won't regret it. Create an account at www.flightsim.com [if you don't already have one -- it's free] and sign in to download the file.
Follow this link:
http://flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=112645
If for some reason it doesn't work, search for "Soft Skies".
For those of you that use FSX there is one for that as well. Lemme know if you like it as much as i do.

James is bang on the mark with that too, there is also a fix called soft horizons. Bear in mind though that if you use REX, both of these will overwrite REX installed textures. Also REX does install a similar texture in a good number of it's texture sets, don't know which tho! Sorry

I do use REX
I guess I'll have to do some research on that, but in the meantime, would these textures, from softhr07.zip, effect GEX sky textures, or GEX ground textures for that matter?

It only affects sky textures. Nothing to do with ground textures. "softhr07.zip" is an upgrade [[that I only became aware of it today when I did the search]] to a previous "softhr.zip" . I have "softhr.zip" and the sky textures for that are not REX quality but they really aren't bad at all either. I'm guessing the update improves on the sky textures as the horizon fading was perfect from the previous version. I haven't tested it yet but I will do a flight soon and report back here on what I find.

I tried it (softhr07) and it didn't work. The cross is still there.
I guess I just have to deal with the annoyance.
Thanks for your suggestions, gentlemen.

You must have done something wrong. Textures don't lie If you installed to the correct folder you should have beautiful horizons. Note that after installing soft horizons you shouldn't use REX or GEX to further modify sky textures. They will overwrite the soft horizon files. Install soft horizons again and call it done. Go fly immediately afterwards and take a look at your skies.

What I did was to create a folder named "SkyBackup" then copied all the files with the prefix of "sky_" into that folder, then extracted the files into textures folder, overwriting all.
I climbed out to FL320 and still saw the very conspicuous line. I didn't mess with REX or GEX afterward, and still haven't made any changes. I assumed that since REX and GEX install texture files and maybe a config, and I made no other changes, REX and GEX shouldn't have made a difference.

Jae - here are my settings from FS9
And Active Sky
I'm obviously assuming that you have Active Sky!! Its shot 2 that should hopefully sort you out. Once you have set the vis settings in Active Sky, fsuipc should need to be used.
Also make sure that your FS9.cfg contains the lines I mentioned above.
Try and see if these help.
Come back to me and let me know how you get on.

J - that looks fine to me. The only thing you could alter is the Maximum Visibility, bringing it down til it alleviates the problem. Did reigning in your FS9 visibilty settings help?
