Well, we're simulating a scheduled airline, not somebody like Netjets or Flight Options (both of which have VAs simulating their ops, I think, I know FO does). It's really not within our "mission" as a VA to do on-demand charter ops, especially with executive jets. Plus, it's a huge workload on staff to put together routes, destinations, all that stuff. I've been a part of a couple of executive-charter VAs over the years, and the staff workload in them has been crazy.

How about just the major charters (ie sports team charters) that use DL mainline aircraft.

I have to reiterate Lewis's comments, We are based on real world ops here at DVA, yes delta may be a carrier of different franchises, But there is one thing to cover here, updating the data base, which means extra time for upper management to redo, continuously to allow these, Setting up and getting the flight routes to emulate, in the Events department. I am not trying to be a spoiled sport here, but there is allot in the background that has to be done for all of this that we have now.

You are more than welcome to fly these, but remember that they are not counted flights, I fly allot of VFR routes that are not counted just to change up the scenery of things for myself. I look at it as another way of having an excuse to fly smile Numbers are numbers, but the real joy is flying.... That is all, "You are free to fly about the country." wink

I'm not completely averse to Charters, provided that someone can get me an authoritative data source that is regularly and automatically updated. The problem is that one is not publicly available, to the best of my knowledge. Ultimately, it needs to be in our database for you to be able to fly it and have the flight approved.

If not, there's nothing stopping you from flying the flight yourself, just not logging it.

Cheers!

Perhaps people are thinking too hard. I have access to the charters Delta flys on a daily basis (i work for Delta Cargo at SLC). No doubt there are others that work reservations/Ramp etc. who would have access via the Delta WEB Vision program or Delta Term program. Piece of cake. All it really is flight numbers and routes. I believe that charters could be a meaningful addition to Delta VA. The real airline flys charters. All the Delta pilots I know and talk to always have great stories to tell of charter flights. Perhaps, charter flights could work like checkride flights. Its no big deal for ACARS staff to add a "CHARTER" button in their program. Then all that would be needed is for the one OK'ing the flight to check the flight to make sure it was valid. Why would that be so hard?

The only problem with people who work for Delta and have access to that information (like me and Aaron) is that the information we have access to is propietary and not available to the public, hence only people like us have access to it. So if we were to put it all over the net, and Delta found out, we could be fired and or have legal action brought against us.

Deltas Charters are public information, you can find it on their website or on flightaware (just search airborne by operator, any flights in the 9800 are typically charters).

My hometown football team uses Delta and usually a 767. I find their flights on flightaware and I asked this question once but got no response. Personally, I'll do the leg work, proving the flight existed is easy, and I can fly my LDS where ever the Chargers go.
Just a thought

Ahhhh...the Air Force Spcial Missions Squadron at Andrews does have 757 flights. Perhaps we should look into what appears to "regular" flights between Washington and say...San Francisco? Oh never mind.those are Gulfstream 5 flights...I forgot.

I think the AirElite idea is a great one. I am in the corporate world full time so this would be really cool. I understand that it'd take quite a bit of work and cooperation, but I'd be willing to help out in whatever capacity is needed.
Couldn't flights be limited by the aircraft that are readily available? (LR45 and Citation X are two that immediately pop into my mind). Of course the BBJ is also available...

I think everyone is missing what Luke's trying to say. Somehow, the data, whether it's flight awre, DL.com, etc. etc. on and on has to be linked some how to our database here. No matter how much people say they will do the legwork; you can't possibly have someone update the database daily on the many charter flights that DL operates...even if they say they would. It's just not practical and it's not how we've done business which is what makes us the best VA.

These threads are really getting nowhere. I would suggest you e-mail Luke and Terry with your ideas and they will get in contact with you about what they think and whether it's a go or no go.
