After completing my first flight I began searching the preferred routes from Atlanta (KATL) to Dallas-Fort Worth (KDFW) as suggested in the Online Flying Manual. However, the SIDs and STARs listed in some of the routes are either non-existing or out of date. For example: KATL NOONE CGO BNA MEM J66 LIT BYP4 KDFW. I could not find any reference for the NOONE SID and BYP4 (BONHAM FOUR ARRIVAL) is now updated to BYP5 (BONHAM FIVE). I'm sure it's a daunting task to keep all the routes updated so if you need help I'm volunteering.

I personally use Flightaware for all my pre-planning http://flightaware.com/analysis/route.rvt I know this does not fix the preferred route database but it does give you acurate real life routes.

NOONE is found in the ATL5 SID. When listed as NOONE, in the flight plan you referenced, shows that a SID is not being used but rather a VOR or in this case an intersection for your first navigation initial point (IP). The flight plan could also have been written as ATL5 NOONE CGO BNA MEM J66 LIT BYP5 (leaving the airports designators off as they are listed int the origin and destnation sections of the flight plan). Yes the data base lags when the FAA changes some of the SIDS and STAR designations. I agree with Jeremy, I also use flightaware as a tool in my flight planning. For example you can look at the actual flight you are about to fly and it will tell you the filed route and altitudes. Under the Airport info you can get the latest SID and STAR (most of the time). You will also find if using Vroute or Simroutes.com that the SID and STAR designations may also lag. Typically it is not a big deal and if flying online ATC may correct it for you.

Hope this helps. Cheers smile

Tony,
The Noone is an intersection departure that is off the ATL5 SID , that is a (Atlanta 5), this routing is still used this day. The BYP4 (Bonham4/ 5 as it is now), can be found here as well as all North American charts http://www.myairplane.com/

Thanks for the feedback. I was using AOPA's Flight Planner but I'll give flightware.com a try.
