I previously flew for American Virtual Airlines (AvA)..In 2 years i logged in over 2000 hrs..no check rides, etc
But every month or so,the company President said we could fly what we wanted for the weekend..
Do we have something like this here....or can we??

I've been with DVA for 4 years now and don't recall an event like the one you described. I'll leave it to the senior staff to reply on whether we'll ever have one or not.

I think that sounds like a great idea because more pilots will really get to try out some new aircraft seriously.

If Delta decides to have such a weekend in real life I'd be delighted to emulate them.

You can use the training mode on ACARS to practice the other planes and get feedback.

I think the ACARS mandatory rule is a little premature unitl X-Plane people cane fly it. Until then, they should get the most out of there current ratings.

Hey guys...everyone write the Head Guys in charge...
The more we respond, the better the chance of it happening...
I'm willing to help plan it...Basically,i think we'd just fly the route we want(provided the plane you pick can make the distance without a fuel problem and no refuelling in flight)....
When i was with AvA,i had logged in 620 hrs in the 767-200,but over 1,000+ hrs in the 737-800
BTW.i just flew my 50th flight...

Please don't fill our mailboxes, please. We evaluate an idea based on merit, not popularity, and waiving ratings has been considered before.
We don't do it for several reasons. First, there is absolutely nothing stopping any of you from flying whatever you want. You can download any aircraft from the Fleet Library and fly it to your heart's content. Every weekend is "Fly what you want Weekend", and we welcome people at events to fly whatever aircraft they want. What you cannot do is file a PIREP, and this is not going to change.
The reason for this is that it undermines our promotion and testing policies in several ways. It's not fair to those individuals who have worked and studied hard and taken several tries to complete our examinations and check rides. It sends a message that they do not need to undertake this journey of self-improvement and merely wait for the next "rating-free" weekend or time period to occur.
Finally, it sends the message to everyone that our ratings and restrictions on filing of Flight Reports are arbitrary, and can be waived in an equally arbitrary fashion. They are not. They exist for a reason - unlike almost every other virtual airline, we do NOT grant ratings based on arbitrary or quantitative criteria like hours or flight legs alone. We demand that you demonstrate competence in aircraft handling and operation, hence the check ride. That requirement is not arbitrarily put in place, and therefore cannot be arbitrarily waived. Just like in the real world. I encourage you, David, to use ACARS and start working on your ratings.
I am not unsympathetic to the needs of the X-Plane folks. I am attempting to write an X-Plane plugin; the other option is for some of you to contact an X-Plane software author to create an ACARS package that dumps data in the same offline XML format as ACARS does right now for offline submission. That would be cross-platform and probably faster to achieve since it doesn't depend on me coding it.
Cheers!

David,
If another VA lets you run when you don't know how to walk, it is their procedures, we (DVA) don't need to do it just because someone else is doing. DVA is different and that's why I am here.
We are not "just another regular VA" we are DVA!
You did so many when you were a AvA pilot, Why are you here? Didn't you like their "fly what u want weekend"?
Cheers!

Luke thanks for providing such a detailed stance on the issue. I have to agree with you as well. Keeping the integrity of the checkride/advancement system is a good idea..
and yes.. I started with zero hours less than 2 weeks ago and I am now as of today a 767 first officer. It was a challenge doing the check ride.. I appreciate you keeping the integrity of the program where else can you fly 10 times and go for a promotion. That is awesome. I love this VA.. from ACARS and what that gives you to the program of advancement.
