In the Delta/Northwest merger, Delta was the dominatnig company and is taking in NW as DAL.

In the KLM/AF merge, neither copany is dominant over the other. They are still two seperate companies that have agreed to operate some procedures jointly including coordinating schedules, fares, frequent flier programs, lounge access, cargo operations and revenue management, adjusting networks, schedules, product development, purchasing, staff training.

Private shareholders own 81.4 percent of the company, with 37 percent held by former Air France shareholders and 21 percent held by former KLM shareholders. The French government owns the remaining 18.6 percent.
