Hi DVA:

I'm leaving Monday morning for a 3 day trip to Disney World (planned yesterday). I'll go ahead and apologize as I'm flying US Airways (no DAL routes from local airport [PGV] and too expensive from Raleigh-Durham).

Anyways, here's my route.

PGV-CLT-MCO
MCO-CLT-PGV

Not too much time for spotting on the way down, but I have a 3 hour layover in Charlotte on the way back. Anyone know any good spots for spotting at CLT? Also, I'll try to get some good shots of MCO (the airport, itself), as it's one of the coolest airport designs (IMHO) I've seen.

Finally, a question. I've looked up the flights on Flightaware. Do you think it would be a problem to take the (potential) SID/STAR for each leg onboard so I could follow along?

Regards,

Benjamin Fonville

I used to do that and one time, along with the tv map, I figured out we went out of the flt path and missed a vor.. so I asked the pilot when we landed; he looked really suprized that I knew that and told me we detoured for weather.

TSA or flight attendants/passengers didn't give you a problem with that? (I'm hoping for a "quiet, no interrogations" trip, even though it's public information). That's my biggest concern. I know the "average Joe" would probably not understand what I was looking at, but I wonder about flight crew giving me a problem about it, even if I explained to them my hobby.

Hey Ben. I was in CLT for 2 hours a few months ago, and if you're in the US Airways RJ terminal (sorry, forgot the letter!) the planes don't use gates, its the "walk out and board" system, so the planes are pretty close to to you if you like taking pics of RJ's. Thats about all I can comment on.

Hi Weston. Thanks! I'll check it out for sure. I'm actually flying out of CLT in a 757, so I'd like to get a shot of the cockpit if the flight crew will let me.

Hey Ben. Not sure where PGV is, but if its a smaller airport and if your on US Airways, you should be going thru the RJ terminal. As for the flight deck shots, I've never had issues, my best strategy is after the flight, waiting til almost everyone is out of the plane, then on my way out, asking them if I could get a quick pic of the cockpit. It's always best to wait til the plane is almost empty, because if tons of people are trying to get out, you don't want to hold the line up. Same with getting on the plane, I never get pics then, because people are always trying to get on the plane from the jetway, and the galley tends to be rather packed, and thats the last thing the crew needs, hold up in the line of people getting seated.

Good luck!
Weston
