Delta Virtual Airlines 2009 Program Changes
Some program changes will be made early in the New Year at Delta Virtual Airlines. Most of the program changes will occur immediately, while others will be in the weeks ahead. Changes not implemented today will be individually announced.

Stage 1 Changes
CRJ-200 Program
The CRJ and other stage 1 jet ratings, which are the BAE-146, CRJ-200, CRJ-700, CRJ-900, DO-328, ERJ-135, ERJ-145, F100 and F70, will no longer be given out to pilots not hired into the CRJ program.

Pilots currently holding these ratings (which should be everyone except new hires from this point forward) will not lose them and continue to fly flights in these aircraft.

To obtain these ratings, pilots will need to apply for ratings in the same manner that ratings are applied for in the Stage 2, 3 and 4 programs.

Those wishing to transfer to the CRJ program will be required to pass the CRJ first officer exam and a check ride, unless you were originally hired into the CRJ program.

Stage 2 Changes
Airbus 320 program
Delta Virtual Airlines will be creating an Airbus A320 program this month. It will be stage 2 and the A318, A319 and A321 ratings will come with the A320. These ratings will be removed from the B738 program. Anyone currently possessing these ratings will not lose them.

Anyone wishing to transfer into the A320 program when it becomes active will be required to pass the A320 First Officer exam and a check ride.

Stage 3 changes
DC-6 Program
The DC-6 program moves to Stage 3.

The DC-6 Aircraft Operations Manual (AOM) is available in the Document Library. The DC-6 Exam has been modified to conform to the new AOM and should be used as a study guide for the exam.

The DC-6 program gains additional ratings – the Convair 340/440. If you are currently in the DC-6 program, you will gain these ratings automatically when we add them. If you are not in the DC-6 program but have the DC-6 rating, create a Help Desk issue to be given the new rating. (It may be a couple of days before this takes effect) Those who earn the DC-6 rating in the future will get these additional ratings when they pass the DC-6 check ride.

The DC-6 rating includes these additional ratings: Constellation, CV-340, CV-440, DC-3, DC-7, L-10

Stage 4 changes
Boeing 747-400 program
Delta Virtual Airlines will be creating a Boeing 747-400 (B744) program this month. It will be stage 4 and will include the B741, B742 and B743 ratings. The B747 ratings will be removed from the other programs that offer it as a secondary rating. If you already have a 747 rating, you will not lose it.

Anyone wishing to transfer into the B744 program when it becomes active will be required to pass the B744 First Officer exam and a check ride.

We are currently beta testing a fleet installer for the Boeing 747 series. It will be available in the Fleet Library soon.

It should be noted that although it states the DC-6 AOM is now available, it will actually be available later today... finishing up some last minute stuff on it.

Hi George,

Thank you for streamlining the processes and separating every program!

Quick question, will there be an A330 program for ex-NWA ops?

Thanks!

At the moment, the changes announced are the only ones on the drawing board... this is not to say we wouldn't consider things such as this. Probably best to shoot me with an email about it and I'll bring it up with senior staff at our next meeting.

So if someone already has the 747 rating and wants to switch to the 744 program, they will still have to take the checkride and exam?

I'm now the captain of 777 and have the rating for 747 but if I wish to become a 747 captain and want to transfer do I need to take checkride? or I'm getting a promotion for it since already got the rating in my pocket.

Faisal, you'll have to pass the FO exam and checkride. Good thing is, you can continue to fly the B744 with the rating, but everybody going into the program will have to do it - even me...

Ok, the Convair 340 and 440 ratings have been added to the system. Those in the DC-6 program currently have received the ratings automatically. Anyone else, you will need to create a Help Desk issue to get them, and you must already have the DC-6 rating.

Yes, as George has already commented on another thread - the 744 is already on fuel consumption testing (profiling) - and it will be notified to pilots that the 744 in DL colors is available for download.

Cheers!

The B744 is nearly completed. The A320, I can assume there will be DL colors, yes. I haven't started testing this one yet.

FYI, the CRJ stage 1 checkride/FO exam is now active.

Yes, there will be a new pilots manual - we're combining the promotions guide and the pilots manual and updated it quite a bit. I don't have a date it'll be published, but not much longer...

the good news is, with the DC-6 now stage 3, you can get to it from the B738 - just download the DC-6 AOM, read it over (and the Flight Encyclopedia), pass the FO exam, then apply for a check ride. I suggest taking the airplane up and work through the procedures a few times offline while pausing, getting them down, etc. You'll enjoy the bird I am sure smile

Jonathan,

That decision has not been made yet. We have to see what the ACARS data collection on the PMDG is. If we see everything we need, we'll allow the PMDG. We are hoping this will be the case.

Ok, now that I have gotten proper crew rest, I'll take another stab at it - When we get some of these other pressings issues off of our plate, we'll look into the DC-6 for FSX and get it added. If you find an FSX DC-6, you are more than welcome to fly it of course (if you have the rating)

Yeah James, right now the focus is on getting the fleet bird tested out and released, AOM updated, exam questions, check ride, etc., open up the program. Until then, you may see "silence" but that is just because we're busy smile

LOL George.
I understood what you meant. razz

Im thinking I may get my hands greasy with a more historic DVA program, like the DC-6.
Of course I won't be able to until the fleet plane works with FSX, but im in no hurry.

Look what just showed up on Avsim recently....

http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fsxac&DLID=132732

This bird is ok... would probably need a lot of tweaking to be up to fleet installer standards.

The Fleet DC6 does in fact work fine in FSX, alot gauges are not compatible (upwards or 25), but other than that, it is virtually flawless.
No texture problems or anything obvious.

The model of the DC-6 above is superb, but the sounds and panel are terrible.
It has a Virtual cockpit, which is lacking but can be modified to look decent.
It also comes with a Delta "Airline of the South" livery which looks outstanding.
Overall it is a work-in-progress package.

A merger of these two aircraft would produce an outstanding package. biggrin

Oh no...Another checkride for me to do? I *must* join the A320 programme, but I just can't do checkrides...I either crash, get disconnected, or forget how to turn off the autopilot on approach...

The A320 rating currently comes with the B738... in a week or two, when the program becomes active, you will only be ablle to get the rating from the A320 program. Both are stage 2.

if you have the rating Timothy you can still fly the plane but you will have to take the FO test and pass a CR to join the program

The DC-6 for FSX is probably going to wait until the 747s and the A320 are done. There's nothing stopping you from using your favorite FSX DC-6.

Cheers!

Luke, don't we already have an A320 for FSX? Or does AFVA hold that under separate license then us? I'd think all we'd need to do is throw in a DAL repaint?

And Trevor, you reminded me of something. Are we going to add in the ERJ-175 rating at any time?
