Problem: Unintended A vs. B wars, OT replies, inflaming replies, etc.
Solution:
Add a small "WM" (Warm Moderators) button on each individual reply that can be clicked by anyone should the need arise (much like we already have for the entire thread at the top). When someone clicks the button, the area around the reply in question turns a warning red (optional), and a "Delete Reply" button becomes visible only to the author.
If a WM button is clicked 3 unique times, the reply in question will be automatically deleted.
The Author stops A vs. B uprising, saving his thread from Lock&Hide doom.
Thought it was a good idea...

I think Trevor has a good idea. Because The A vs b vs e vs C is getting old.

Threads are usually watched fairly closely by the moderators. By clicking the "Warn Moderator" button, there is usually someone investigating the matter within the hour.

Unless there is something really vulgar, way over the top offensive, or X rated, I don't think that we need to pounce on a thread at the first second. Since we really never get those type of threads, I think the current system is fine. This is THE MOST policed cooler I have ever seen so I think HR is doing a good job.

Yes, but whenever there is a A vs. B war going on, the mods tend to just lock the entire thread.
Most A vs. B wars are not intended by the thread author, yet he is usually the one who ends up losing his thread.
The mods can't always be there, thats why I think the author themselves should have a way to defend their thread on their own.
If this system were implemented, there would be more of a physiological resistance to post rude comments on the forums knowing that it could easily be removed.

Not saying yours is a good or bad idea here.
But only Senior Management has and should have control of what to erase and what to leave on the forum. Threads are only locked when they've gone far away from the original point, and it's pointless to continue posting in it.

Well, as a RuneScape Forums Moderator, with hundreds of hours moderating a forum used by 1 million + people, I think this is a good idea. People who play this combat-based MMORPG might be slightly more likely to burst out and give problems, and having more people increased the likelihood of disruptions, but still there's good reason for this at DVA.
I and my 101 other forum moderators (which isn't a lot, as there are 1m + people) agree that a thread shouldn't be shut down just because one or two posts are disruptive, especially if the disruptive posts are not from the author.
So I say give the moderators power to remove individual posts. I'd also suggest the ability to edit your post even after somebody else has posted. Of course, allow the moderators to see the post in it's edited *and* unedited forms, as we do on RS.
By the way, I'm not trying to make myself look all 'hot' and everything because I have moderating experience. I'm just adding my two cents, which happen to be effected by experience on the topic. So don't think I'm trying to be conceited, because it's the last think I want to appear as.

The senior staff has the ability to delete individual posts if they choose to. If they lock the thread, it is usually because the arguments could continue regardless of deleting a single post.
I think we are monitoring our forums very well...If you have a problem, click warn moderators and the mod will read the entire thread and decide what to do with it.
P.S. Trevor, did you make that sig?

I think DVA has the best forum on the internet regarding moderator oversight, and I DON'T have any problems with it whatsoever.
(The recently deleted thread is an excellent example of that.)
Charly Azcue made that excellent signature for me.
I Still think its the best i've ever had.
