Build 237 introduces a few changes to the UI that you might want to be aware of. In the most recent build of the webapp, I implemented a CSS-based horizontal navigation bar instead of the vertical navigation bar that we currently have. To do this with minimal changes to the JSPs that drive the site, the side navigation menus have been rewritten to use HTML list elements instead of tables, and the entire thing wrapped in a bunch of custom JSP tags.

The feedback I received when I presented this to the staff was mixed. There is a strong attachment to the current web site layout, which I can understand. I also received some very helpful feedback that indicated that the top navigation bar was not suitable for screen widths under 1280 pixels.

With this feedback in mind, I made some changes in how the new UI is implemented. if you edit your pilot profile, you now have an additional check box to select the top navigation bar instead of the side navigation table. The default for this is OFF, so none of you should have noticed any significant changes when the build went out, except for a few minor font changes in the Delta 2007 scheme to bring it more in line with Delta's corporate web site.

However, if you turn this ON, and Golgotha detects that you have a screen width and browser window in excess of 1280 pixels wide, you'll see the new navigation menu. Feel free to give it a try and let me know how it works. If you find a bug, please log it in the Issue Tracker (found under Our Airline). If you don't like it, feel free to switch back.

With this feature, DVA members will have four possible UIs to choose from, and AFV members will have two. Hopefully you'll find it useful.

Neat change Luke... works great!

I'm not sure how I feel about it just yet... I think that it gives the site a much more clean look. But, it's a real change from the site I have browsed for so long.
I'm going to give it a shot for a while and see if it grows on me (been know to happen).

Thanks for all your hard work in continually making our site/VA better.

Not a fan... That was an inconvenience to find all the options that you want. It looks fine, Luke, but it was inconvenient to have to go up and select the right tab and then pick from the drop down where as the side menu, it's all just there for you.

ITS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!

I LOVE IT!!!

I was thinking earlier today, before i saw the changes, that you could make the side navigation bar move down with the page, like im sure you have seen on some web pages. This would have meant that the user does not have to scroll up from the bottom of the pages to see it but, now i have seen the new design, my idea seems like a pile of rubbish!

Mark, go into your profile, down where you can change the interface there is a new check box. Put a checkmark in that and then clean your cache if it doesn't show up after you update your profile.

If you don't like it, you don't need to use it. One of my goals for the different skins available for the web site is to ensure that as we create new ones, we don't get rid of the old. Kinda like the widget, the wavy gravy and the 2007 paints in the fleet....

I like it the, only thing i see is the news gets covered up, if you could move the tables down so when you hit the drop down menu its not covering it up, maybe a picture of somthing to fill in the space

What browser are you using, and is the window maximized? The web app will calculate your size based on the browser window, if it can find it out.
