Hey guys, I am new at DVA and have some questions, but first some history...recently I was looking to join a second VATSIM VA (originally being an AFA guy) that was more focused on structure and real world operations. I had tried UVA but didn't like their system and of course I ended up here at Delta VA and am very happy to be hired into the 757 program!

Now I have a couple questions I would like to ask all you DVA nuts here - when flying online which callsign do we use and is it necessary to depart from the airport you arrived at just before or are we allowed to jump between locations? A bonus question as well - I have the Captain Sim 757 block BCE for FS9 and am not very happy with it (being used to the PMDG and LDS birds) due to the lack of a 2D cockpit and many non-functioning systems such as the FMC. I did get the freeware panel for the CS757 off Flightsim.com however it is still nothing like the LDSs or PMDGs. Can anyone recommend a better payware 757 aircraft or perhaps some twisted way to fly my LDS as a 757? Thanks a lot and I hope to enjoy my time here!

Welcome to DVA

1. when flying online which callsign do we use
Most of us use DAL but you can use whatever you like

2. and is it necessary to depart from the airport you arrived at just before or are we allowed to jump between locations?
Again, your choice. Many of us link flights together, but entirely your call.

3. A bonus question as well - I have the Captain Sim 757 block BCE for FS9 and am not very happy with it (being used to the PMDG and LDS birds) due to the lack of a 2D cockpit and many non-functioning systems such as the FMC. Yes - it's called the Maddog!

Thanks for the answers Andrew! So then when we are online we use DAL and our pilot ID ie DAL7363 for mine?
Just wondering what was preferred as I've seen some people use their DVA PID and others use their flight number etc.

Haha, I would think that once I am able/willing to switch programs I will switch to one which I already have payware aircraft for. Hmm...time to dream about the 747 program flying to NRT.

1. Andrew (LTC wink ) hit the nail on the head. As for me, I use whatever callsign the pilot would use RW. If i'm flying an ASA flight, although it's Delta Connection, I say Acey XXXX or for Comair, Comair XXXX, Shuttle America, Mercury XXXX and so on.

2. Not mandatory. Everyone has their own preference. Me; I link all my flights.

3. If you really like the 757, check out the PSS; tops if you ask me. I love it! Take Andrew's advice and get the Mad Dog 2006. Want to try something different? Get the Wilco E-Jet or the Flight 1 ATR. I don't own the WILCO but have flown it on someone else's system and I was very impressed. Leaps and bounds above their CRJ. I do have the Flight 1 ATR. Excellent payware and modeled to a T. It is money well spent.

I'll second some of the above . . . I use the callsign of the actual flight, i.e. DAL1792 one leg and DAL1793 on the return leg. Some people here use their PID # as the callsign, but I like the realism of changing flight numbers.

The PSS Boeing 757 is great (it's available as the JustFlight 757 right now), and I have been using it for a couple of years. If you're interested in the MD-88, I have the MadDog2006 (I hear the 2008 is out now), and love it. After flying the Wilco A320 and CRJ9 for a while, the MadDog MD-80 flies unbelievably smoothly, especially during takeoff and landing. No weird control forces needed to keep the airplane under control during rotation or flare with this airplane.

Thanks for the replies guys, also interesting responses regarding aircraft. I might check out the Mad Dog but I would prefer to use an aircraft I already own and also move up the stages once I am eligible for promotion. Also I have no particular connection to the 757 but that's the program I was assigned to so as I understand I must fly it for the legs to count for promotion?

Correct Colin. After 10 flights, you will be able to take the left seat test.
