Does it really work? And, if so, how do I use it?

It does work on most airports,to use it tune in the freq on the nav1 radio then turn on the nav1 radio at the bottom of the radio stack and then press the autoland or ils on your autopilot then it will take action when it captures the glide slope and localizer

I've done one or two bumpy landings in the fleet 757 using autoland as a validation measure, but I wouldn't trust it. Generally, you should consider approach mode in the fleet enough to get you to CATI or CATII minimums, and then it's up to you to land it.

Cheers!

It has worked for me every time on the LDS-767 payware.
This is what I do, I make sure the FMC has the approach and runway programmed and that the ILS freq is dialed in. Then when on the heading to intercept the localizer, I select the LOC on the auto-pilot panel, but only after it shows up on the HSI, then when the altitude indicator shows up in the HSI, I select the APPR. Now when the autopilot turns on the AUTO LAND 3 indicator, I know it will be a good auto land; otherwise, I disconnect the auto pilot, auto throttle, and land it manually.
