Hello, all. I have tried twice to do KLM 664 KIAH-EHAM via 737-700, only to run out of fuel somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic, far short of my destination. I load to half capacity and every drop of fuel the -700 will carry and set for a very economical cruise speed. On one flight I set cruise at .68, on the other I went down to .64 with the same result. My fuel rate is typically around 3.2 per engine and by the time I factor in the high burn rate during takeoff and climb, I simply can't make it.

I am using FSX with the fleet 737-700. Perhaps the burn rate in the model is too high versus real life? I know that KLM does this every day, both directions, so it is a very frustrating problem for me to figure out. Any advice anyone could offer will be most appreciated.

Try the 737 BBJ from Posky. That should make it

As Mark said, you must fly the BBJ!

The Winglets version of the -700's range is only 3,900nm, while the ER(BBJ) is 5,510nm.

Yep, KLM contracts PrivatAir to fly their 40ish seat BBJ. The BBJ will give you another 2,100+nm on your range. Enjoy!

Mike,

You didn't state what altitude you were flying. Also, there are several websites (forget which) that offer Winds Aloft information to help in your flight planning.

Flying mach .64 - .68 seems awfully slow at altitude! Depending on your flight level, you may have been "mushing" through the air.

Think of a boat at a speed that doesn't quite get up on "plane". Instead it wallows there, consuming a lot of fuel and making a lot of waves. A little faster and the boat would get "on-plane" and now skim on top of the water (instead of just pushing through it) and use a LOT less fuel. Try .72 - .74 and see if it makes a difference wink
