I posed this question in a thread in another section, but the thread was deleted for other reasons. Once Air France begins flying the A380 on TATL routes, would this qualify as codesharing per the TATL JV between DL and AF/KLM? If so, would that open up an option for DVA pilots to obtain an additional rating on the Big Bus?

My guess would be that if that flight is considered a codeshare, then it will be in the schedule. The rating I assume would be paired in with the stage 4 programs, most likely partnered with either the Triple 7 or 747. Once that aircraft begins revenue service with AF/KLM, I imagine a rating would soon follow, pending it is considered a codeshare. If your interested in flying the big bus, I know that our sister airline (AFVA) has all of the AF/KLM flights in addition to their codeshares in their schedule, send an email to either Terry or Luke, they should be able to give you the info regarding a potential transfer, I am not sure if there is a "flight leg" requirement or not to transfer, again that is something Terry and/or Luke could clear up for you.

I'm not looking to transfer to AFVA, I just thought it would be interesting fly the A380 and if it was possible that could be done through DVA as an AFVA codeshare. Thanks for the response

I'm about 95% sure it will be a codeshare due to the joint venture agreement we have with AF-KL.

Update: I just confirmed it. DL8581 will be on the Airbus A380

Airfrance received their first A380 just yesterday (30 of October). They're first flight with the A380 is suppose to be from CDG-JFK on Nov 20 2009. Will we be able to fly this flight or not? Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_France#Fleet

Luke if AF and DAL have that flight as a code share, sure. I'm pretty sure they are, but I'd check it a cpl days before the flight to make sure it is a codeshare.

How would I check to see if it's a codeshare flight. Would I just check through the "Browse Scedule" link in the pilot center?

As an FYI, I am unsure if the necessary infrastructure is going to be in place in time for AF's first operation of the A380. Based on what we all saw with the 747 and A320 programs, there's a fair bit of work that needs to happen behind the scenes before a new aircraft rating becomes available, and I know that the Ryans and Steve on the AF side want to ensure that the A380 rollout is done right. I'm confident that the DVA staff wants to see it done right too.

I don't want to say a definitive no, but at the same time I wouldn't get my hopes up about getting an A380 rating by the end of November. Let's see what happens.

Cheers!

My guess is that it would also require an accurate FS9/FSX A380 model...
