I am not sure if you are familiar with the website www.widgetheads.net. The website was shutdown for a while, after Delta's lawyers ordered the webmaster to remove the DL logo from the website due to copyright laws. Don't want the same thing to happen here.

There has been significant effort made to ensure that Delta's trademarked logoform does not appear on this site. Although I'm Terry and Luke can add more specific information, I don't believe there is anything to be concerned about.

Please explain to me how you are three people at once? eek

LOL ... couldn't help myself. Anyways, I don't think DVA has anything to worry about.

We are aware of some people that Delta has gone after. We have gone to great lengths to make sure that we are legal and that is why we are very strict on copyright policy here. We have never been contacted by big Delta and we go to a lot of trouble to make sure that we never will. CHEERS

After all these years and the way we've all conducted ourselves as well as having a excellent staff of all ages Delta knows we do not abuse or take for granted what we've done. I'll bet there are alot of "Real World" Delta Staff and pilots" who have checked us out. If anything else we give Delta Airlines a reason to be happy. We offer training via our acadamy and pilots must earn the upper stages with strict rules and we allow a voice here on the cooler to ask questions relating to our hobby. Delta should be proud and I do believe they have been approached by our staff in the past. I might be mistaken on that. Still with all that said our staff takes very careful steps to make certain we do not use anything copyrighted by Delta.

From what my cousin (a RW Delta pilot) has told me, Delta is actually very happy w/ us. Apparently, we give Delta a good name and get their brand out to people who otherwise might never check them out. Where he got his info from I don't know, but at least it sounds good coming from a RW Delta employee.

I have also been told by two different DAL employees that Delta is quite familiar with DVA. Although they weren't able to say exactly how DAL feels about DVA, the fact that we haven't received a C & D letter shows that at least they find no fault with DVA. Let's make sure to keep it that way. The manner in which all DVA members conduct themselves here, on other forums, and on VATSIM probably has more importance than you know.

Well, my own two cents says that at least part of the reason that the real-world Delta tolerates - or perhaps even likes - our existence is the professionalism and respect with which DeltaVA is operated. This is the only VA I have been a member of but the scuttlebutt I have heard is that many other VA's are nowhere near as professional and courteous as we. I have heard tales of vindictive, juvenile personal attacks among members on bulletin boards and chat and stories of childish name calling and personal attacks that are far too common on the Internet. While I have no personal experience, as I already mentioned, I have no reason to doubt that these stories are true, given the nature of what boards are like on the Internet in general.

One thing I love and greatly appreciate about DeltaVA is that such behavior is not tolerated. While we may disagree from time to time about this topic or that (Airbus vs. Boeing, anyone?), 99.9% of the time we disagree in a respectful, friendly manner, not counting the occasional good natured ribbing we may do to each other that we understand is all in good fun. On those rare occasions that disagreements are not so civil, management reacts swiftly to edit posts, lock or remove threads, or discipline offenders. For this reason, I visit this site nearly every day and often several times a day, and not just because of a shared love of aviation: it is also because in the morass of petty name calling and childish personal attacks that the Internet has become (or perhaps was all along), DeltaVA is a breath of fresh air and an oasis of sanity.

I think that DVA's great reputation is due to the consistently involved and dedicated management team. It seems that many other VAs are created but then the driving force(s) lose their desire, and it just withers and dies. We all owe it to them, so we need to keep doing the best we can on VATSIM and on the water cooler (which everyone can see, btw).

Delta is after everything on the widgetheads.net site (including the URL) claiming it is "proprietary" information. Great way to treat one of the airline's biggest fans AND a great source of information for those of us who are Delta customers...

Chris, one word answer: Money. widgetheads didn't pay Delta for the right to use thier logo, and so now Delta needs to make a point. Its an unfortunate side effect of buissness. If Delta doesn't go after them, and then decides to go after someone else for improperly using the Delta logo, the 2nd group could claim an unfair bias by Delta.

The problem with "free advertising" in this sense is that it is not regulated. We run a tight ship here and require everyone to represent DVA just like it were the real airline. With that being said, if you go around posting names and logos for someone, even if it is free, you may not be representing what Delta is all about. So, what if in their "cooler" they allow people to curse, be offensive, or do anything that is not becoming of a professional? Delta cannot regulate what their name is being associated with, therefore it is just as easy to just say no to everyone. CHEERS
