Just thought I'd throw an idea out there for a "Pilot of the month" kinda thing... you know, Bragging Rights wink

The EC (Events Coordinator) would pick a route between any two airports (i.e; KSLC-KLAX) with a different route every month. Pilots could maybe also fly the reciprocal at will. Perhaps an already-popular route, but with the caveat that the pilot must first sign up for the challenge before he/she could be recognized in the event.

The EC would also pick an arbitrary time to complete that flight (i.e; 1 hour, 38 minutes). Plenty of leeway on the time since it would not really be a "race" but rather a precision-timed event.

On a dedicated "Monthly Challenge" page, it would list the pilots who landed (T/O to Landing) closest to that time. In the event of two pilots having the same time, preference would be given to the number of tries (least to most) or landing with the least vertical speed. If still tied, then the least G-force on touchdown (then maybe aircraft weight?)... Details, details!

Ideally the "challenge" would be open to any type of aircraft with a member of any rank (rated in said aircraft). In addition, a given pilot could fly the route as many times as they want before the closing bell to try and best his/her previous performance. Since the challenge would be spread out over the month, the workload on ATC should be no more than what it is now. In addition, since the route would only have to be thought of once a month, the workload on the Events Coordinator should be minimal.

Not sure what the "award" for the winner would be, I'll leave it up to staff to figure that out but I know I would enjoy flying such an event and having a little friendly competition to boot cool

Just thought I'd throw it out and see what everyone thought and maybe gauge an interest level.

Fly Safe!

I like that idea. Not only you get to have a little fun competition, but it will also make you a better pilot.

TracY, I been thinking since this morning of something to rearrange and make things more interesting here at DVA. What you just posted is a nice idea to make things a little more challenging and fun at the same time. But everybody else is welcome to come up with any idea this way every single one can enjoy our hobby and VA even more !

It dosint nessaserily have to be done online. We could just get our info thro ACARS. Knowing how craft Luke is i think he could fins a way to do this.

I like the idea, but it would be really hard for the "judges" to go through ALL the ACARS info every month and determine a winner.

Nicholas, that's part of the beauty of it. I'm sure Luke could come up with a way to examine a submitted ACARs report, determine if the pilot was signed up, see if the legs/route match (maybe DVA flight #?) and then automatically extract the relevant ACARs information. I'm thinking the system could automatically grade and update the "Challenge" page, similar to what already happens on the Statistics page?

Things that make ya go HHHhhhmmm.... wink
