I have been needing to replace my old Shuttle SFF P4 with 1/2 gig ram with a new rig better suited for FS and other games. Here is what I came up with so far, but I would like to hear if I will have any compatability issues or if I should tweak my choices some.

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128423
Processor: i7-920 Bloomfield http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202
RAM: OCZ 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227501
Case: Antec Nine Hundred Two Black Steel ATX Mid http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129058
Power supply: Antec EarthWatts EA750 750W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371026
Fan: ZALMAN CNPS9500 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118003
OS: Win 7 64 bit
Video card: GIGABYTE GV-N26SO-896I GeForce GTX 260 896MB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125294
or
EVGA 01G-P3-1180-AR GeForce GTX 285 1GB 512-bit DDR3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130480

All in all, about $1300ish. Thanks for any thoughts and tweaks

Overall seems good, have you considered http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131403&cm_re=ASUS_P6TD_Deluxe-_-13-131-403-_-Product ?

Also, check out Noctua for your Fan -- pretty spiffy!

Robert,

Great Setup, I just purchased the exact same thing from the egg with the following exceptions:

My Mobo was the P6X58D http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131614 It is more money but it is a very stable board that natively supports the 980x CPU and has new USB and SATA. Others are easily hitting 4.2+ with it. This is being dubbed as the replacement for the P6TD Deluxe the Skylar mentioned. One thing to note is that it is SATA only and does not support IDE and ATA so you may need to get a SATA DVD if you don't already have one. I am re-using my SATA 3.0 Hard drives and bought this DVD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

I got the Noctua NH-D14 from http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/noctua-nh-d14-ultra-silent-cpu-cooler.html Comes with Thermal paste that is just as good or better than AS5. The NH-D14 is the best air cooler on market and will easily keep the 920 cool enough for high OC.

Power supply is the 750tx http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006 I had a better feeling about it than the Antec.

I did get the same 260 that you are looking at, it has great reviews and great standard clocks. My opiion is I saved the money on this and got a better Mobo and I will upgrade to the Fermi when it comes out later this year or next.

Make sure you check out all the combo's for the parts that you select, you can normally save money and shipping is reduced or free. Here is a combo with the CPU and RAM. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.332988

I am just receiving all the parts now as we speak and will be putting it together this weekend, I will let you know how it goes. As for the 902 case I got that last night and if it ships from NJ then it is a newer model than what is even shown. This newer version has a hole cut for access to the backplate of your heatsink, I am very impressed overall about this case.

I would recommend the EVGA X58 Motherboard. The Asus P6T seems to have some memory issues, that need to be resolved.

Just curious but it looks like you are opting for a single-GPU solution here. Any chance you might go SLI in the future? If not, why not consider a P55 versus the X58. The boards on average are about $50 cheaper. Triple channel DDR3 isn't worth it looking at the benchmarks. I am building a new system too using this board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188054 that I picked up on Christmas day for $129. Going to throw in an i7 860 Lynnfield. You can't go wrong with either video card but I prefer eVGA. I had to RMA my 8800 GTS 640 after two and a half years and they replaced it in a week.

Thanks to everyone who game me other options to look at and thoughts. I am looking at them in comparison to what I located so far. I cant wait to get my hands on a machine that can run FSX and FS9 really well. My P4 with 512Meg of RAM is just outdated. Thanks again.

Robert I finally have my system put together and FS9 installed and all I can say is WOW!!! Here is a link to some pics I took this morning very quickly to show the IQ/FPS that I am getting http://www.deltava.org/thread.do?id=0x15cdb . In the pics I am locked at 60FPS and staying there +/- 5 FPS. I am using Imaginesim ATL, GEpro, REX2004, and LevelD. All sliders are maxed to the right and I set it up with cold front and Dawn Time Frame. OC at 4.0ghz and I am seeing a max of 46c when fully loaded in FS9. I do not have my AI set up yet so that will tax it a little more but man o man am I happy with my new rig.
