This is a pretty cool article I found showing new processors compared to old. I currently have the Q6600 which is a 2.4Ghz quad core (OCed to 3.2), and it was beat by the new intel i3 processor. Its just an interesting read and it definitely makes me want to upgrade now just seeing the raw data on how the newest and cheapest processor out there will beat what used to be a good processor (as to be expected of course). So if you have any free time, grab some coffee and click on the link.

And if you do like to try your hand at overclocking a cool thing they did was get a 50% overclock on some of the new stuff they tested.

"Using those simple methods, I was able to coax the Core i5-661 up to a frequency that makes my head spin: 4.5GHz at a very healthy 1.4V. That's nearly a 50% overclock on the Core i5-661's 3.3GHz stock speed"

Yes Tom the new i5 and i7 CPU's are very OC friendly. Just invest in a good after-market cooler like the Cooler Master Hyper 212. I have a Core 2 Duo e6600 oc to 3.2 GHz on air (default is 2.4 GHz) using a Zalman 9500 and it is very stable. I ordered a Hyper 212 for my i7 860 rig I'll be building next month.
