Ok, yet another frame rate question for everyone. I've got a weird issue I've tried and tried to figure out with no luck yet.

I have my frame rate locked at 30 in FS and get between 20-30 flying around. When I am approaching an airport it drops to 4-9 - real jerky. If I pan left, right, or behind the airport it goes back to 20-25 . . . any thoughts?? I've played with display settings in FS, settings in card, etc.

I know my comp is old, but this shouldn't be happening. Seems to run fine except on short final.

I've got:
Intel P4 3.2
3 GB Ram
Win 7

James, it is all because of Airport Scenery. Since there is a lot of details of airport being seen during approach, there is more load on Graphics as well as CPU.

Since you are using FS2004, the only way you can fix this is by using Airport sceneries which are frame rate friendly.

This website can be useful for freeware sceneries (most of them are frame rate friendly): http://walhalla.mine.nu/fs2004.php

I know a lot of scenery will tax FS. However, this is a relatively new install. I think the only add on scenery I have installed so far is Gary Widup's SLC, which is supposed to be really frame rate friendly. Maybe I just need to uninstall and install again before I get too much added on . . . I don't know.

Shahzeb is right. Scenery is something that comes with FS. That's why you have a scenery folder in your FSX install directory. The airport terminals and gates and taxiway signs and most likely downtown city buildings that make your FPS drop are still going to be there no matter how many times you reinstall. Your PC may need some upgrades or you may need to turn down your sliders more.

If you can. Turn off the AUTOGEN option in display settings. That helped me quite a bit.
