I used to fly FS9 way back in the day and since then have "upgraded" to FSX.. my question is this, without any addons I got great frames (20-30) and 10-15 on vatsim... well since Ive put a bunch of addons to "spice" things up a bit.... I am getting down right aweful frames. ( 6-10 online). well heres my computer specs. what should I upgrade to get the best out of flight sim...... keep in mind I would like to keep my mobo and processor.

Its really the processor thats slowing you down because once you load up a payware aircraft like a PMDG, the panel and all of the simulated systems are more complicated than the freeware a/c which uses up more CPU power, you could probably get a little better performance by upgrading to Windows 7.

It's weird that you're getting such low frames with that system.

Are you running very high settings? Or do you have too many programs running at the same time?

It depends on the socket of the MB, if you can find a better processor that has the same socket than your all set. If something better requires a new motherboard I beileve you can still buy motherboards that support DDR2.

i have a ton of addons, (mostly scenery, dont like flying without the correct looking airports) but even with the sliders going from, say halfway to max, doesnt kill the frames, If I turn it down to next to nothing, i get good frames again. would upgrading to a GTX285 be worth it? or do I stick with my current gfx cards and get a new mobo and chip? I usually run FSX, FScommander, ASX, REX, various addon scenery, last time I check I had about 80-process's running. Should I try windows 7?

ok so heres the good news... I updated to windows 7 and got over a 300% increase in frames!!! i have my slider set to 20 and no matter where i go its "pegged" so thats promosing... also I figured I would treat myself and it was time for an upgrade... getting rid of the 2 nvidia 9800gts that are in here and got the XFX Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 1GB XXX Edition, should do the trick for all my gaming needs now..... maybe get and i7 and new mobo soon, well see. Gonna start installing my addons to FSX and see how it goes.... thanks for the help fellas
