It is probably a bad idea because when you run XP in windows 7 so you will literally be running a program in a program which is likely going cause poor performance.

Actually I run FS9 in XP SP3 compatibility mode with no issues. It is just a check box give it a try and see what happens.

John++. You do NOT want to run any flightsim stuff via the VM.

Cheers!

I will second that Luke. Definitely do not run FS or any other gaming or high demand software application through XP mode in Win7. XP runs in a Virtual Machine process on Win7. Basically you are running XP in a window in Win7. I do not believe that you will be able to get any hardware acceleration and can look forward to a frame rate of about 1. Running in compatibility mode is something else entirely. Compatibility mode can be used to change settings such as the color depth, resolution etc. for older programs to run on a newer operating system.

Yes I am sorry John I misunderstood your question, DO NOT USE THE VM, you can check the box for compatibility in the UAC but do not run the VM as the others have said.

I know this sounds dumb, but why would you want to? I just installed 7 on this lap top and have dabbled with FS but nothing serious yet. It seems to run better on this lap top with 7 than it did with XP so far. I have been out of the loop because of work so if I have missed a bunch on this Im sorry.

I believe DirectX 9 and up doesn't work on virtual machines anyway. So you wouldn't even be able to load it up.
