Hey guys,

Well just as the title says... my computer has recently begun doing this.

Addons I am running: MADDOG 08 Pro, REX, FSINN, and ACARS on my laptop using WideFS.

My Specs: Evga GTS 250 1GB, Intel Quad Core Q9400 @ 2.67 GHZ, 4 GB DDR2 ram, and Windowx Vista 64-bit.

I'm not quite sure why it's been crashing like this. I was running the MADDOG 08 Pro for a while and I was just fine. This just started up about a week ago. Any suggestions?

First I'd suggest reading your crash dump. Microsoft pre-configures Windows to log what happened into these files on purpose. Also, run Prime95 on a blend torture test overnight to make sure you don't have any bad RAM.

Ugh frown I don't want a new computer I just got my video card and cpu 2 months ago haha! I know I'm in need of a bigger case and cooler. Just hope they hold up for a while!

If you know you need a new cooler, heat could be a cause in the blue screens, but I would be surprised to see it happen out of the blue after 2 months. Check and see if your computer installed any automatic updates in the last few days, MS has released several updates, and one could be causing you a problem. If you have system restore enabled, try restoring back to a time before the blue screens. If you can give me some more info from the blue screen, I can probably help you narrow it down more.

No problem!

Not trying to dismiss that as an issue Bill, you could be right, but I very highly doubt it. BSODs are usually caused by instability. Screen artifacting such as odd lines and weird spots on the screen are usually signs of overheating.

Yeah I'm not quite sure yet. My gpu runs constantly at a temp of 60 degrees when I'm using FSX. I'm not sure bout my cpu temp at the moment.

John, you are right, if you are referring to overheating of the GPU. Overheating of the CPU can cause blue screens. I see it all the time at work with old socket 478 brackets that break, and the heatsink doesn't sit properly. All he stated was he had replaced both the CPU and GPU and he needed a new cooler, so I did not know to which cooler he was referring.

Try to get the code that will appear on the bottom of the screen. About 3/4 of the way down it will be something like "0x0000000CF" or something like that. Get that code and plug that into google. Thats what usually does it for me.

Logan, try changing or reinstalling you sound card drivers. That code normally refers to a sound card or audio device. If it is not the sound card, check device manager and see what else is listed under audio devices.

Take a look at this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952681 . Read through it if you understand it and there is a hotfix available.

Okay I will try that too John. Thanks. I could see that occuring because of my new video card that is installed in the PCI-E slot.

Tom,

Yes it is a Nvidia. The EVGA GTS 250 1GB.

Alright here is what I think your problem is as it used to cause issues for me and has for many other people.

Check to make sure that the nvidia firewall is not installed. It has been a long time for me, but if I remember right it will just be under your add/remove programs. That has caused a lot of problems.

Nvidia display driver "nvlddmkm" (maybe try older or new beta drivers), or Nvidia's Nforce firewall software.

Okay Tom I looked and didn't find the Nvidia firewall listed in my add/remove programs. I just look at some threads though and they have said to uninstall the nvidia drivers and then reinstall them without nvidia firewall/network manager. Does that sound familiar?
