my computer is destroyed basically. it is 7 years old so i was debating about getting a new one and spending around 800-1000 dollars. or should i use some of my parts and just upgrade i have e8400 3.5ghz 4 gb ddr2 800 mhz ram and the rest is useless. please tell me what to get and if anyone would like to design what i should get i will look into it. i would really appreciate it. i am debating about a possible prize for the best model for the best price. i would really appreciate this. thanks everyone.

If you have 800-1000 to spend then I diffidently encourage you to buy a new one. I personally recommend a Phenom II X4 and an ATI 5800 series card, but you will get the people who recommend and i7 and Nvidia. I do believe that from the articles i have read that AMD has a better cost to performance ratio then intel, and the new 5000 series graphics cards are the fastest cards in the world right now.

Here's what I got, includes everything minus monitor and Operating System:

CPU/MB combo: Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.4ghz, Biostar AM3 DDR3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.345265

Memory: Corsair 4gb(2x2gb) DDR3 1600: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145260

Power Supply: Corsair 650w: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005

Video card: Sapphire ATI HD5830 1gb: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102878

Hard Drive: 1TB Seagate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148433

Case: Mid-tower Cooler Master: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119068

Disk Drive: SATA CD/DVD Burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106289

There are rebates and such the grand total is $891.92 before shipping. If you want latest and greatest technology there are motherboards that can support new SATA speed of 6 Gbps, which also brings up the price of the hard drive. There's room to expand but i think that's a decent build.

You said you had a budget of $800-$1000 and that one is pretty much in the middle. The one you picked may be probably can run FSX on high, but it would only run well with freeware aircraft, once you load up a PMDG, the load on the CPU would become too great.

the only real way to bring down the cost is a new video card. I found what is probably at least a decent replacement but i don't know much about the card.

I can't say which one you should buy, I believe you should decide for yourself, here are 2 articles comparing AMD vs. Intel, and the best CPU for a price range.
