Today, I accidently dropped my laptop like 1 foot off the desk.

I rebooted the computer and my sound will work for about 20 min. After around 20 min, an error comes up saying that the sound card has encountered a problem.

I tried rebooting the system like 3 other times. The issue kept doing that.

Would a system restore possibly fix that?

Also, after that 20 min, I click on the volume control, an error pops up saying "They are no active mixer devices available. This program will now close"

PLEASE HELP ANYONEE!!!!

Graham, when you dropped the laptop it probably broke part of the circuit board (probably the audio section, if not much more)

At the very least it may have dislodged any chips that were socketed. Most of the SMD (Surface Mount Devices) are also very susceptible to shock as well and can intermittently disconnect from the motherboard.

Do what James said and file a warranty claim. If you're brave enough, check to make sure you didn't jar the RAM, CPU, etc loose.

As they say: "You'll only drop a laptop once" frown
