G'day guys,
I bought a brand new PC last year with the following:
Corsair TR3X6G1600C9 6GB (3x XMS3 2GB) PC-12800 (1600MHz) XMS DDR3 RAM
Intel I7 920 2.67GHz overclocked to 3.4GHz
Nvidia GTX 275 896mb GDDR3
P6T SE motherboard
1TB HDD @7200RPM
Vista x64 bit
I was thinking about making the switch over to FSX and was curious if my computer could actually handle it as well as get some half decent frames rates. I am just don't want to make the switch over if it means being stuck with default scenery/aircraft and poor fps. So I was hoping some of the seasoned FSX users could give me a bit of an idea about what to expect.

You have a 1TB HDD .... why not have both FS9 & FSX installed?? Then you can have the best of both worlds.

Oh, and by the way, your system will handle FSX just fine. I have a nearly identical setup.

I use ImagineSim's KATL with TrafficX 2010...also have UTX, GEX, and REX....phew!!

Using PMDG's MD-11 and with all setting nearly at max (airline traffic @ 60%) I can expect around 15-18 depending on how many cloud layers ActiveSky X generates. All things considered that is a great number IMO. Once I take-off the FPS just gets better.

Frame rates are not an accurate measure of what you experience in FSX, as
is pointed out many times in the avsim forums, its smoothness of the sim,
and often times lower rates still give a perfecty smooth experience.

I have a less powerful system than yours, only a Q9300, although I'm just
about done building my i7 975 system, should be up within the week. However,
Ive been happy with FSX for a couple years now. You just have to study the
tuning threads on avsim, once you get used to it FS9 looks very worn indeed smile

Even with no special scenery, I'm flying into Hong Kong right now, setting are
at max for scenery, I have REX cloud textures and GEX, and its just beautiful!!
FS9 can't even come close smile

Good luck,

Jack Vogel
