I just noticed last night that there is a 747-400FEX or something like that in the ACARS list, and also
noticed I'm not rated for it. Can someone tell me what it is? Am at work so I can't get at ACARS to
double check on what it was called.

I guess I'll have to do get the 747 rating smile

Thanks guys,

Oh, hmmm, so why is it being differentiated, is this the same as the 747-8i?

And if "fixed" will it be be available to all that have 747 rating now, or is this
something for only those with the newer category rating?

This question is more for the CP/ACP or whoever can speak authoritatively to it smile

The 747-400ERF would be different than the 747-8. They are two different birds.

Pulled from Wiki:

The 747-400ERF is the freight version of the -400ER, launched on April 30, 2001.[7] The -400ERF was delivered to Air France (via ILFC) on October 17, 2002. The 747-400ERF has a maximum takeoff weight of 910,000 pounds (412,000 kg) and a maximum payload of 248,600 pounds (112,760 kg). It offers the cargo airline the choice of either adding 22,000 pounds (9,980 kg) more payload than other 747-400 freighters, or adding 525 nautical miles (972 km) to the maximum range.[11] It has a maximum range of 5,700 miles (9,200 km), about 326 miles (525 km) farther than other 747-400 freighters, and has a strengthened fuselage, landing gear and parts of its wing, along with new, larger tires.

Boeing has delivered 40 Boeing 747-400ERFs with no outstanding orders as of 2009.[3] The last 747-400, a -400ERF was delivered on December 22, 2009.[5] The new 747-8 Freighter will have more payload capacity but less range than the 747-400ERF.

Oh, ERF, that was the part I wasnt sure about since I'm not where I can run ACARS, thanks smile

So now my question is, does PMDG actually differentiate this plane, and if they don't then why is
our category going to mean anything?? I have been flying the 747-8 already anyway, I love it,
and it gives you the range of the 777 smile

Thanks for the info Skylar.

PMDG only modeled the -400 and the -400f. The differences between the ER, ERF, etc are very minimal in regards to what you can do with it in FSX.

The -8I extension is simply a graphics overlay over the underlying basic schematics of the -400 they originally developed for FS9 then ported over (with changes including the fuel system). The payloads and flight dynamics are the same, but the sounds and visuals (aside from the cockpit/vc) are different.

Now the RW -8I will go much further and has a greater capacity, but that isn't what PMDG did with it.

As far as the PMDG freighter version goes, I believe the only significant variation from the -400X is a few key points in the cockpit/vc, and maybe the payload (slightly) - aside from that I believe it is still the same basic plane. The biggest difference with the freighter is the doors you can open, the nose-cargo opening, and a few extra eye-candy vehicles you can bring up (stairways, loading vehicles, etc).

As far as I can tell, the 400ERF has a few components modified from the original Freighter, but you really wouldn't be able to notice any of it in a simulated situation such as with FSX.

I am, however, interested in finding out what this -400ERF in ACARS is meaning -- maybe they are adding in freighter routes or something? Who knows.

Guys,

We are aware of this. Generally, Sterling and I are the only ones who add/subtract aircraft. We are not sure why or who created this aircraft but I have removed it from the list for the time being. We are not saying that it will not come back or that we won't have it in the future but none of us on Operations/SS have disucussed it. We will let you know any updates.
