Yesterday as some of you know I conducted my flight from KSMF to KSLC for my senior project.

The flight was great and all but I ran into a problem. When I fly I get 60FPS constant.
Upon hitting the record button my FPS dropped to 10...

I had to deal with this and I recorded most parts at 10FPS. On pushback the aircraft jerked alot while moving. So I doubt I want to have this video for my project now. I want to redo the video again and flight but with the recording over 30FPS.

I don't know why but my External Hard Drive used to record at 60FPS as well and now it went down to 10?? Might it be a bad version of Fraps or video drivers?

Any help? I run:

Windows Vista Home Premium X64
4GB RAM
C2D @ 3.80GHz
HDD 640GB @ 7200RPM
NVIDIA GTS 250 1GB
External HDD 750GB connected via Firewire

FS2004 and Fraps are running under administrator.

Can you record to your internal hard drive and then transfer the file over? With external you can / will run into bottlenecks where this would be less prone with your internal drives. You can try re-installing FRAPS and trying different settings in FSX. My assumption would be the external, but if you have done it before then......not sure

yeah - recording to any external drive - live like fraps is a resource killer. Fraps also records a HUGE amount of data - so a 30 second clip could reach upwards of several hundred MB before you edit it...add in FSX and your specs - and the result is not surprising

Try half size recording. That helps too.

Okay guys I fixed it, it records at 60FPS again. I use FS9 by the way.

The problem was a compatibility issue with the new Fraps version after all. I went back to an older version and it solved my problem.
I use Half Size as well.

Thanks again everyone! smile
