I am new to the virtual airline thing, and my career goal in real life is to become an airline pilot. I want to make this a semi-realistic experience for myself. So how can i set up a schedule sort of like a real life one with legs going to and from the same airports instead of flying into lets say Atlanta and then flying out of Orlando. I guess what i am trying to get at, is how or can i make a trip? thanks!

Jeremy, I often wonder the same thing and tend to get bored with flying from one airport to another. After searching I found that there are way to many variables to a real pilots schedule. Another member gave an example of how a 767 pilot might work. Day one would be for example- might be two short runs in a 757 back and forth to KATL and then your day concludes with a longer haul to a domestic 767 location lets say KLAX, then the following day you come back to atlanta and do a couple of short haul 757 runs. This is only one example.

What I like to do, that has brought some variety is as follows. I downloaded the delta computerized schedule from the delta.com website. I think pick one airport I want to focus on. Mine is KMSP. So then I take KMSP and pick a destination I want to arrive at. For example, I might do KMSP to Dubai. Well there is no direct flight, but I do all the legs that would get me there, and then I do the same thing coming back, so each round trip is usually 4-6 legs. This is just something to break it up a little bit.

I think you will have a hard time finding exactly what you are looking for since it is probably diffrent for each pilot.

Not quite sure what you are saying, but you could create flight assignments for yourself and then use those as your schedule. You could also fly out of the same airport you fly into if you want. Not sure what you are meaning...

Here let me give an example so that everyone can understand it better. Lets say that i am an ariline pilot for ASA airlines. My home base is in Atlanta. I am assigned a 4 day trip, and on the first day of the trip i fly from Atlanta to Memphis, Memphis to Detroit, Detroit to Saint Louis, and Saint Louis to Minnesota. I have an overnight in Minnesota and wake up the next morining to fly to Kansas city. From kansas city to Denver... So on and so fourth untill the end of the trip when i arrive back in Atlanta. Is there a way to Schedule this so that it can be like a real life trip of an airline pilot?

DVA has no automatic flight schedule system if that is what you are referring to. But like Nicholas said, you can create flight assignments for yourself, so you can create your own multi leg trips. So for your example, just go to "find a flight" in the pilot center, search ATL to MEM, and once you find the trip, put a check mark in the box, then on the bottom click "add to flight assignment" and once you are done with all the legs you one you then click on build flight assignment. Now in your logbook, you will have trips that you have planned and then you can follow them until you complete all your trips. That is about as close as your going to get to what you are describing I would say.

If you wanted some actual flight lines, I bet you can find Delta bid packs on the internet. I could get some from a freight operator, but they really wouldn't work since most of the trips would be out of Memphis.

The first thing I would do is start at katl and see where the CRJ actually travels to. I tested it and the example you give gets stuck right away because there are no CRJ routes from MEM - DTW.

I would use the find a flight tool in the pilot menu and start in atlanta and just figure out where you want to go and see if the route is CRJ or not. Then I would pick the earliest route and fly it. Then use the Find a flight feature again and search from that airport your at. Pick the next route that would make sense with the time of day. This is one example I worked out

KATL-KAVL 8:40E 9:56E
KAVL-KATL 10:21E 11:26E
KATL-KAGS 12:39E 13:35E
KAGS-KATL 14:00E 15:17E

KATL-KLEX 17:27E 18:49E
KLEX-KATL 19:15E 20:44E

These are all CRJ200 flights and would fill up a whold day and you would end up back at headquarters, you can do any combination you see fit though.

and you could pre file your flights on VATSIM and pick them up as you go and or use Delta VA Dispatch.....might be an idea to look at....I will bring it up in meeting...

You don't have to fly the CRJ on a CRJ route, you can use it as long as the CRJ can complete the flight with legal fuel reserves, etc.

I would agree that I would like to see trips available. For example have 3 or for day trips planned for each type. Example you could pcik a 737 block and it would give you a realistic pattern to fly for those days. It would consist of 9-12 flights or what ever would be "normal" for real world piolots!!
