Be aware of a hp and dell policy of tatooing the motherboards to prevent anti-piracy. If you ever have to run a system recovery is very possible to get a color purple message and the computer into a loop with no solution but to pay hp or dell to simply give you access to whats already yours. After changing any hardware (in my case video card) basically the operating system thinks that im installing it on another computer. The only solution offer by hp is to pay 135 dollars for a maintenance fee or take to a certified hp tech so he can retatoo the motherboard. The computer is not broken in any way is just a system check file from hp. I am posting some blogs for solutions and prevention, the files can simply be erase and it will never give you that error message, and will not affect the operating system or performance.

For me it was too late i had to pay 60 bucks for some tech to give me access to my own computer, is not only inmoral but how is it legal i dont understand. If thinking of buying a new comp (Dell or HP) i suggest buy operating system apart that way you keep a disc copy and controll of your operating system, mine came with the computer and i dont have the disk. I think is just a way for them to make sure you pay 60 bucks every six months or so. Hope this helps.

And thats why Ill never buy any Dell products. Plus once you build your own for half the pricetag of what those two will charge you...... and not have any "bloat-ware" on the HD, youll never want to do anything but Build your own again.

Daniel, how recently did you purchase your computer? I update the hardware on the Dell PCs at work regularly and have never encountered that. This could be a genuine concern for us.

Update i took the computer to CompUSA. They have never dealt with such an issue before, as unbelievable as that sounds.
They called me to ask me what to do. Somebody told me to try to recover windows after removing the video card. I dont know if thats going to work. A friend of a friend works at Compusa and hes going to try to load windows with an all data loss.
They charge 80dollars just to do that. All that just to make windows, that i already pay for it, to work. So again when planning on buying Compaq and Hewllet Packard, pardon my spelling, ask about this policy.

it looks like im going to fix my own comp. CompUSA is unable to solve a simple software color purple error message and they charge 50bucks and 8 working days just to let me know that.

I have found more info on the issue. 2 yrs ago hp and compaq were legally force to remove such a thing. My comp is 4 yrs old. For new computers is not a problem anymore according to hp tech i found and hes coming tomorow with the tatooing removal software. What an issue this has been for me no wonder they dont understand how to fix it in CompUSA.

Wow that would make me not want to buy one of those brands, as we gamers always upgrade.

For any gamer, who wants the benefit of upgrading at own convinient,
it's a BIG no no to even smell at a off the shelf pc.
Build yourself or make the shop you buy from build it for you.
Cheaper, better, stronger, more flexible + the advantage of installing
Windows yourself without all that nonsense Dell and all the others "attach"
to your windows installation making the pc run like a washed out turtle without legs. biggrin

Thanks for the suggestions will never even look at a shelf pc again. For now i got it back with vista could not afford the upgrade to 7, next months.
Lost all my data all the add ons and the airbus collection and just everything. Im flying again with issues but is working. Thanks again. And for the record for new computers is not an issue anymore and the Computers that use to do the tatooing are Compaq and HP.
