i downloaded the MD-88 installer and installed it and then the plane is not on FSX. Any ideas?

Is your FSX installed into the default directory?

Also, if you are using VISTA or Win 7 you need to right click on the installer and select "Run as Administrator".

This may sound simple, but are you sure you selected the FSX button and not a different simulator version?

Some where on your hard drive is the folder FSX (probably under Programs). Once you find that you need to go to SimObjects, then Airplanes. Look in there for DVA_MD_88 folder. Should be lots of files in there. I am out of my element on computer advice, but try it.

(C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator X) is the default directory. Its where everything that you install into FSX goes.
