Observing closely at the lower portion of the fuselage will show jagged edges. Basically curved portions show as a series of straight lines. I have observed that in ground scenery also.

I am looking for a solution to help improve that and let the A/C be a part of what otherwise is a perfect picture.

I am using FS9 with REX2. FS9.cfg has been tweaked a little (e.g. hide park brake etc.). FS9 display settings are maxed at everything.
Graphics card is NVidia GEForce 8400M GS with the latest graphics driver from NVidia site. nHancer settings are what I could find from the web but suggestions to improve them are more than welcome.

Thanks for your help.

Turn off your AA settings. Get NHancer, and roll back your video driver to the last version. Once you get NHancer up and running - try using their default FS settings and see if that makes a difference.

Gurmeet.

I have excellent results with no jaggies using the following nHancer setting on my NVIDIA 8800GT.

1. Download a copy of nHancer from www.nhancer.com and install it

2. Run it and on the main window, find the two FS profiles (FS9 (MS Flight Simulator 2004) and/or FSX (MS Flight Simulator X)) and remove them. You'll notice both have a greyed out "Enhance in-game AA setting" checked on the Enhancements tab.

3. Create new FS9 and FSX profiles, being sure to point them to the FS9.EXE and the FSX.EXE respectively in the lower portion below the list of profiles.

4. Now set your stuff on the right side of the screen in the tabs: I use the following settings on my 8800GT:

Enhancements Tab:

Anti-Aliasing: -CHECKED
Combined, 8XS – CHECKED
Enhanced in-game AA setting –UNCHECKED (VERY IMPORTANT!!)
Gamma correction-CHECKED
Super – Tranparency AA - CHECKED

Anisotropic Filtering:-CHECKED
16X – CHECKED

Vertical Sync: - CHECKED
On – CHECKED

Color Scheme: -UNCHECKED

Optimizations Tab:

Texture Filtering - High Quality -CHECKED
Trilinear Opt – Off -CHECKED
Aniso. sample opt. – Off -CHECKED
Negative LOD BIAS - Clamp (really important for eliminating blurries and shimmering) –CHECKED
Adj LOD BIAS – UNCHECKED
Force DXT3 (OpenGL) – UNCHECKED
Prerender Limit – UNCHECKED

Compatibility Tab:

ALL UNCHECKED

Dear Gideon,

Thanks for your inputs. This is the level of detail I was looking for.

I have done the settings as you suggested, and violla, I don't have any more jagged edges.
I couldn't find some settings (e.g. Color Scheme), but that's OK.

As a side effect, my frame rates have got a heavy toll and I am at a FPS of 2-3 (which was 19-20 earlier) and FS now runs as a slide show rather than a continuous stream.
But for now, the question got answered, and I have a ready reference for my immediate needs.

I guess I will have to do some more optimizations w.r.t. FS Display settings, REX, ASE and nHancer all together to get a decent performance out of my graphics card and a acceptable quality, but that's a time consuming task and I might have to search and apply and test a series of optimizations before I get the desired result. Will keep the group posted.

Best Regards,

Gurmeet

Look here, its the font of this info, and while its FSX, the principles are relevant to both,
go about half way thru the article to find the nHancer settings:

I tried using nHancer. For some reason though it would NEVER kick in for FSX. The only program it worked for was FS9. I'm happy with FSX's default AA though. No jaggies at all.

Gurmeet, try turning down the Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering levels, and see if that makes a difference in your frame rates. Odd that it would; most cards since the ATI 9500/9700 have been able to do significant levels of AA essentially for free. What screen resolution are you using?

Cheers!

Mine is 1280 X 800 X 32 bit.

Would like to reaffirm that it is a 8400M GS Chip (M for Mobile(Laptop)), if that helps.
Textures are from REX2 with low resolution selected and DXT3. REX2 does not run when in flight. Active Sky Evolution runs in the system tray and controls the weather.
Everything else is shutdown in flight (even firefox). Servinfo is invoked once in a while just to check for the next approaching FIR and ATC manning.

I keep a eye on services and everything needless is shutdown, including Symantec. CCCleaner helps me stay clean of temp files etc.

The biggest frame rate hit is near Cumulus and Cumulonimbus clouds especially when there are more than 1 layer.
The second frame rate hit is when on finals to a airport (1-3 fps are typical, especially with 3SM or so visibility). Level of detail is Low for Autogen and medium for 'Scenery Details'.

Drives are 50% or more free with full de-fragmentation run almost every second day.
