I recently bought a new router that has been able to handle the multiple computers and xbox without dropping the connection. It has been working great! All computers were running fine. However, yesterday, all of a sudden, I go to connect to the internet with my laptop, and it says "unsuccessful". No problem, it has happened before. Usually I just run the diagnose and repair option and it fixes itself. However, it is not working. I go to my control panel-network window and it shows I have limited connectivity to my wirless network. However, The graphic at the top that goes from my computer - to the network - to the Internet with a line between each has an Unidentified network image under where my network should be. I'm confused why it says I have "limited connectivity" to my named network with an Excellent signal strength but then says "Unidentified network" in the graphic above. It just started happening and I'm not sure if or what I did to make this problem occur. I just did a system restore with no luck.

I wish it was that easy. I haven't had to enter a password since the very first time connecting. My router has an option for letting guests connect and then making them enter a password when they open up a browser... but that won't even connect.

You might think of giving all of your stuff thier own IPs and see if that works.

James, I feel like this might be something I need to do. I just talked to my roommate, and one of his laptops and mine both have IP messages that pop up and have a hard time connecting. I do not know how to do this, so if someone can give a description or a good link, I would really appreciate it!

sometimes you should turn the router off/on and then from your laptop disconnect and reconnect.....by any chance does it say local connection only?

Neil, I unplugged/replugged the router and it worked. I guess it was something that simple. However I have another question. This was a problem before and I just dealt with it, but my laptop takes forever to connect to the internet. I'm connected to my network but it says "local only". However, usually I just wait 5 to 10 minutes and it pops onto the internet. Sometimes I do the diagnose and repair and that works after pressing the option about IP addresses. Anyone know a way to fix this to where it will connect to the internet right away?

I've had a similar issue with a laptop and found that the network drivers were out of date and in contention with other resources. Try updating your drivers and see if that helps.
