I keep getting this blue screen error about 2-3 times a day, the hardrive might be on its last legs but I don't have the funds to replace it let alone get a new pc so I'm hoping there is a fix for this, even if it works temporarily. Any ideas on whats wrong.

Take a look at this, and from what I'm reading its an error with Windows over an actual hard drive issue.

EDIT: that hotfix is from 2007, try this forum post and is from February of this year.

The 2007 fix may not work? For the second link it requires a windows CD but my pc didn't come with one.

It requires any sort of boot device with XP on it. You can try the one from 2007 but correct, it may not work.

You could turn a flash drive into a boot device, our you could always just make the upgrade to Windows 7 if you end up reinstalling XP.

You may not need a CD. When booting your pc, there should be an option to either press esc or an F key which will take you to a "hidden" menu where you can select a windows restore, among other options. This prompt is typically available to you when the pc's manufacturer's logo is show, the screen just prior to the Windows logo screen. This is where the manufacturer has installed the windows CD that used to be included with the computer. Hope that helps a little.

Check you memory sticks, and Or this may occur if the win32k.sys is corrupted.

Go toC:\WINDOWS\System32 and rename the Win32k.sys file to Win32k.old and then
close the window. Now go back to the system32 folder and you will have a
new and non-corrupt Win32k.sys file.

The behavior also may be caused by that the virtual memory of the Windows XP
is corrupted. Disable and then enable the Virtual Memory to see whether it
solved the problem.

To disable Virtual memory:

1. Right click My Computer and choose properties
2. Click the Advanced tab
3. Under Performance click settings.
4. Click the Advanced tab.
5. Under Virtual memory click change
6. Click no paging file
7. Click OK
8. Restart the computer

To enable Virtual memory:

1. Right click My Computer and choose properties
2. Click the Advanced tab
3. Under Performance click settings.
4. Click the Advanced tab.
5. Under Virtual memory click change
6. Click System Managed Size
7. Click OK
8. Restart the computer

Happy trouble shooting, Windows can be so much fun......
