Okay so I have the option to upgrade my two 460's to two 470's, or get a 128gb SSD. The more ram is better for FS as well as my massive resolution (3470x1680) so I am really stuck on what I should go with >.<

Opinions needed !:D

So first of all, what's your current specs? wink

I'm guessing 460 and 470 are video cards? To see a big difference, both you'd need to double up the RAM in video...

the VRAM goes from 1gb to about 1 1/4 -- but there are more processor cores, etc in the 470s.

I7 920 D0 at 4.0Ghz
6GB DDR3 RAM (1600Mhz)
GTX460 1GB External Exhaust (with a sizable overclock)
Seagate barracuda 1TB 7200RPM Drives.

It's a matter of deciding if the vram and processor cores are worth the upgrade cost, or if the SSD will provide better performance. The cost is about the same to get the SSD or upgrade both GPU's (it's actually about $50 less to upgrade the gpu's)

OK found the specs for the cards... I wouldn't really bother with spending that money right now... might as well save some more money and upgrade to the 480!

well I have 30 days to upgrade my 460's to another better card. EVGA has a step-up program, so I just pay the difference + shipping, send back my old ones, and get brand new cards.

Oooh, in that case, I'd go with video then... the difference should be less than a couple hundred bucks right?

The difference is about $65 with shipping per card.

The problem I have is will the cost be worth it, or would the SSD benifit me more?

The thing is... you don't get money back from the 1TB HD which is already a big investment, and the SSD would probably help load things a little faster, but it wouldn't increase your FPS the way the video cards should.

Personally, I wouldn't spend the money at all, but I'm cheap

If you will spend it, I'd say go with the video cards.

well the money is from selling an old laptop on craigslist. the 1TB HDD was really only about $50 so isn't a huge loss. Not to mention the SSD would be for the windows OS and a few games -- everything else would go on the 1TB drives.

Edit: I know what I can do. Get the 470's, try and sell my old GTS250 (not being used) and then get a 60GB SSD for boot That'll have to do.
