Hey computer guys,

Over the weekend as I was simming, my computer completely froze up on me. So I held onto the power button until it shut off. When I turned it back on, all I got were the fans from my cpu, gpu, and psu to spin. My hard drive is also spinning and my dvd drive opens and closes. I get no beep that the computer has posted and there is no video output to my monitor.

I've tried testing for bad ram, switched cpu's, tried using my integrated graphics instead of my GTS 250, tried discharging the mobo, taken out the CMOS battery, checked every wired/connection, switched back to my old psu to see if that was the case, and I've still had no luck. The only conclusion I can come to is that I've got a bad MOBO. Any suggestions???

My specs are:

OS: Windows Vista Premium 64 Bit
GPU: eVga GTS 250 1 GB
Memory: 2 sticks 2 GB DDR2 1600 ram
PSU: Corsair 650W
CPU: Intel Quad Core Q9400 @ 2.6ghz
Motherboard: MSI NVIDIA MCP73PV

Thanks for the time guys!

Do you have another computer that you can use for trouble shooting?....and do you have a voltage meter?

Well, sounds like either the mobo is bad (like you said) or a rail in the PS went out. But with out a meter or another desktop to use you sort of in a bind. See, if the power supply is bad then the mobo may not be getting what it needs to even POST. If the mobo was bad then of course it wont POST either. We need to confirm one or the other and a meter can do that. Simple meter could be bought for $10 or so at a Radio Shack.

If you get a meter then test the PS's 5, 12, & 24 volts. Test it while the computer is on so the PS is under a load. If the PS tests ok then it is likely a bad mobo.

he already tried another power supply. Sounds like the motherboard took a leap. On a side note, you could closely inspect the board and look for bulging capacitors. Seems to be a common failure in electronics these days
