Perhaps the more important quetion is will your computer be able to run Windows 7 succesfully. An older PC with a slower processor and buss speed may not perform well at all.

I recently migrated from Win XP 64 bit to Win 7 64 bit Ultimate and now have a much more stable platform with few FS issues. Here are my specs so you know what I am working with in the context of Norm's comments. Win 7 works well on my system because it's somewhat newer but we don't know anything about your system so we can't really give you advice.

i7 940 CPU
Asus P6T Delux Mobo
Nvidia 280 GTX
3 x WD Velociraptor 10,000 rpm HD (one for OS, FS9 and FSX)
6 GB DDR3 2000 RAM

My PC is a custom build. The i7 940 is a 2.93 GHz CPU and I have it overclocked to 4.0 GHz running very reliably and smooth.

I recently upgraded to Win 7 from XP and my PC is towards the lower end of the recommended specs. I am running FSX and the only major problem I have run into is I have to start all programs as administrator... not really a problem other than remembering to do it. YMMV with FS9 thought.

The best thing about upgrading was the clean install I did removing all the junk from my computer.

running fs2004 on W7 ultimate 64 with intel 2 core 6600@2.40ghz 6 gb memory and nvidia Gforce 8800 gts.
Its runs grate fps on max.The only thing is that some scenery not fitting with W7 64bit.But thats mostly older scenery.
And you have to patch the feelthere 737 and the digital fokker for W7, unless the are eating FPS.:-)
Do not instal the flightsim in the normal place.(C/progam files x86. better is on a different partion ea D/FS9 or D/FSX )

regards
wil
