I hope someone can help with this issue. I'm running FSX on XP SP3. This setup used to work fine. After some time away (no computer changes), I attempted to make a flight. Everything seemed to work fine, but the sound would drop in and out. The dropping out gradually got longer until sound goes away completely. I replaced the internal sound card with a Rocketfish 7.1 card. Now the problem is that everything will be working fine then there is a short blast of static and the computer freezes. It does not go back to desktop, it just freezes and the computer has to be turned off to get it restarted.

The problem seems to happen more on some attempted flights than others. Strangely, once I get off the ground and get past the ATC handoff, things are fine. The problem seems to be related to radio calls, as the lockups occur when I attempt tp contact ATC or they attempt to contact me. Any ideas?

Dell 745 2.4 gHz

Rocketfish 7.1 sound card

For troubleshooting purposes, it would make sense to remove the sound card and see if the original symptom reappears. You could also try finding a different driver for the new sound card.

Thanks for your response, Norm! I did actually try going back to the internal card. The sound dropping in and out reappeared when I did so. After doing this, I went back to the new card ( I never physically removed it, just switched the drivers through control panel) and tried a few flights with no problem. I tried repairing my FSX installation and the symptoms remain. I did also try to find a newer driver for the Rocketfish card with no luck.
