it seems like i ask stupid questions but heres another... i understand about 10 flights to move to captain of that aircraft but do i have to be in that program to gain that rank or am i just considered a first officer?

I think i explained it ok if not il try to clearify

Mike,

1) You need to be qualified in the Stage and the Aircraft that you are looking to be a Captain in. [usually involves a transfer request, an examination, and a check ride.]

2) You need to complete 10 qualifying flight legs for promotion to Captain.

3) DVA promotes individuals to Senior Caption Quarterly based on participation in VATSIM, Water Cooler discussions, and other areas that show ones desire to better DVA.

In order to be a Captain for an aircraft this must be completed.

HOWEVER, DVA discourages multiple transfer requests and promotions "just because."
They hope that if you are seeking promotion in an aircraft program, that you intend to fly that aircraft regularly.

Mike, your captaincy is related to the program you are in. It is not an rank across all types. For instance, you can be a captain in the MD-88 but it you move to the 757 you will be a first officer again until you fulfill the requirments for captain again in that program. It is on a per program basis.

Ok that anwsered my question im in the md-88 program and want to gain a rating in the 747. so i need to move into a stage 3 aircraft program before i can do that.
(plus 10 legs)

Correct. You must become a stage 3 captain before you can request ratings or transfer into the 747.

So basically, you have to do this:
-Take 1st officer's exam for 757/767
-Take CR for 757/767
-10 flights as FO in 757/767
-Take captain's exam for 757/767
-5? flights as captain of 757/767
-FO exam for 747
-CR for 747

You're rated in the 747 now!

That's assuming you pass every exam/CR on your first try smile

Almost Ethan. You don't need to take 5 flights as a captain before advancing to the next stage. Also, the ten flights must meet the criteria for promotion to captain.

I thought there was a 5 flight rule for something. Am I just being crazy?

The 5 flight rule is only applicable for changes within an stage. For example, if you move to the 757 program, and decide you would rather go to the 767 program (both stage 3 aircraft), then you must first complete 5 flights in the 757 that are eligible for promotion, rather than the 10 flights to move up a stage.
