I hav about $200 I can spend on upgrades to my computer. It handles FSX fine, but I'd like to add more addons and have decent frame rates.

I have a Core 2 Duo E6600 (yes, I know, these are old now, but they used to be awesome back when they came out!) that I was thinking about replacing with another LGA 775 processor. Would this make any difference in frame rates? The E6600 is currently running at 3.5 Ghz.

My graphics card is a GTX 260, and I won't be replacing it.

FSX is installed on my only hard drive, a 300 GB Seagate. Would getting a faster (maybe 10,000 RPM) drive help with frame rates or anything?

Any other ideas? Should I just save up money until the new line of processors from Intel comes out?

Your CPU should be plenty powerful for FSX. How much memory (ram) do you have installed?

I have a 2 duo core and I love mine. I has the storage space that I need and the ram (8 gigs) of ram that is wonderful! I would love to have a quad core, but I like the way this is running.

Well, how about a new harddrive for either system or FS, Intel X25-M SSD 80GB? MUCH faster than a Velociraptor @ 10.000 rpm.

Do you think that would improve my FPS?

I would say the Raptor Hdrive [10,000 rpm] would help you a lot. 2 in Raid0 would be even better. They were on sale at NewEgg a couple of weeks ago.
Cheers,
Jerrell

If you are looking for better performance by FPS, your best option is overclocking your CPU or getting a new one.
A new harddrive will not bring your FPS up that much. But with the SSD disk I reccomended I guarantee much better overall performance and faster loading of FS and better loading of textures in any scenery, which may improve FPS in certain complex scenery areas. If you experience stutters, it may completely disappear.
But I would recommend one for FS and one for system,to get full benefit.

Btw Jerrel, the rather old Raptor is not even close to SSD. Even my Velociraptor is slow compared to my Intel SSD's. wink

Not all motherboards are capable of making the changes necessary to overclock so you'll want to check into that as a data point for your decision. It's too bad you aren't able to upgrade the video card. I think that is where you'd get your greatest gain on your paticular system.
