I stumbled across a blogger who was involved with MSFS a few years ago and now works for GOOGLE. Albeit a bit dated, this blog explains how FS handles textures and what causes the blurries. He does get a bit technical, but it may answer a few questions for those that are trying to get the best visual from FS9. It was originally posted in 2005, so unfortunately FSX may not be applicable here.
