Recently my FSX has been acting up and is practically unflyable. When I start up FSX the sound is very staticy and motion is very jerky. I figured I needed to update my driver but everytime I try it gives me an error that it cannot be installed. I had another post on this previously and someone mentioned if I had tried to start it in safe mode. I tried and it gave me this error: "Invalid hardware or driver detected-This graphics card does not meet minimum requirements for shader support. This product requires a GeForce3/Radeon8500 class or better graphics card. Flight Simulator will now exit."

I checked my framerates while this jerky motion is happening and it's somewhere between 2-4 fpm. I used to get 12-18 fpm. I can't understand how or why this is happening. I have listed my specs below. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. I really miss flying!

NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS (v. 260.99)
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU @ 2.40 GHz
RAM 4.00 GB
Vista 32-bit

The latest driver versions are not always the best for older NVIDIA video cards. I am running a 8800GT 512mb and have been using version 180.48 for some time with no issues. Uninstall the driver and go to the NVIDIA driver archive and try an older driver. Also, running nHancer will help getting both FS9 and FSX to run smoothly.

Here are my nHancer settings and tips...

1. Download a copy of nHancer from www.nhancer.com and install it

2. Run it and on the main window, find the two FS profiles (FS9 (MS Flight Simulator 2004) and/or FSX (MS Flight Simulator X)) and remove them. You'll notice both have a greyed out "Enhance in-game AA setting" checked on the Enhancements tab.

3. Create new FS9 and FSX profiles, being sure to point them to the FS9.EXE and the FSX.EXE respectively in the lower portion below the list of profiles.

4. Now set your stuff on the right side of the screen in the tabs: I use the following settings on my 8800GT:

Enhancements Tab:

Anti-Aliasing: -CHECKED
Combined, 8XS – CHECKED
Enhanced in-game AA setting –UNCHECKED (VERY IMPORTANT!!)
Gamma correction-CHECKED
Super – Tranparency AA - CHECKED

Anisotropic Filtering:-CHECKED
16X – CHECKED

Vertical Sync: - CHECKED
On – CHECKED

Color Scheme: -UNCHECKED

Optimizations Tab:

Texture Filtering - High Quality -CHECKED
Trilinear Opt – Off -CHECKED
Aniso. sample opt. – Off -CHECKED
Negative LOD BIAS - Clamp (really important for eliminating blurries and shimmering) –CHECKED
Adj LOD BIAS – UNCHECKED
Force DXT3 (OpenGL) – UNCHECKED
Prerender Limit – UNCHECKED

Compatibility Tab:

ALL UNCHECKED

Within FS Display Settings (FS,FSX) - set the AA box to unchecked and the filtering to Trilinear in FS9 and Anisotropic in FSX. This *should* make AA work for you guys...

Thanks, Gideon. I'll try this and post back how it turned out. Keep your fingers crossed!
