First of all I do have FSX not installed but also have FS9 on an older laptop if I have to resort to flying. I have had FS9 on this laptop for about three years and about two weeks ago while flying using DVA ACARS the power went out. When I returned - the first thing happening was FS9 would start up but when starting ACARS (switching screens) FS9 would lost connection. It then started to not even connect and then would not even load. Went ahead and used all the steps in the process listed here...http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837195

Further more I went ahead and removed FS9 off my laptop .. deleted all the files to include all add ons, aircraft, utilities.. I went ahead and reinstalled/deleted FS9 twice and also updated it to 9.1. When starting up it locks up at the start splash screen. Any ideas?

I would try to run some disk checking utilities and see if somehow your hard disk was damaged. It sounds like when the power went out some bad things happened on that laptop.

I would uninstall FS and every and all addon (FSUIPC, etc), scan the disk at startup, defrag, restart, clean install FS9 without patch, and try to launch.

Does anything else lock up?

I installed FSX and its working fine. So I'm at a crossroads.... I do have FS9 on another older pc to run.

I've done the procedure where I backed up the FS9.cfg or renamed it then deleted the original then ran FS9 again. To no avail :(.

How about you uninstall FS9 completely, also everything else related to FS.
Then go to the registery and make a search for FS reg entries and delete them all??? (im not sure, but FS9 uninstall wizard might not remove the reg entries??)
Run > regedit > in the find , search for "flight". Delete the selected entry only ! not the entire folder.
Make sure you read the "Data coloumn" and insure that it is FS9 related.
EDIT: make sure that when you re install FS9 you install it in a new folder, not the old one

Rabee thanks for the help! That worked great! Now I have to completely reinstall and rebuild scenery, traffic, and scenery files. I'm going to be much more selective for this install now.
