I have a studio XPS 9100 Intel Core i7-930 processor [L2 Cache 2.80GHz] The video card is a G310 512 mb DDR3 64 bit. Is this card good for FSX windows 7 or should I consider an update?
Thanks

Do you know what kind of power supply you have? If you're not wanting to spend too much, the GTX 460 and GTX 570 are both good nvidia cards.

I just picked up a brand new PNY GTX 460 off ebay for 140 bucks!!! Has better specs then the card I was going to go with originally so i am happy. But Im also stepping back to Nvidia after having less then stellar results with this XFX HD5870xxx card. Bottom line, get the best that you can afford, general rule of thumb, stay away from the newest technology as you usually pay waaay more for that.

What I have read recently is the ATI HD5800 series and up cards have improved a lot over the earlier versions. You can search on google and find some nice articles on the two cards. From what I read the Nvidia cards are slightly better on frames (5 to 10%) but they are usually more expensive and take more power and generate more heat over their ATI counterparts. I have had both and currently have an ATI HD5850 which has given me great service so far. I have had two Nvidia cards go out on me in the past three years, so there may be something to this heat issue. The latest ATI drivers 10.1 and up seem to have improved my framerates slightly which is always nice.

I just bought a 460 yesterday having a hard time setting up the 3d settings to get rid of the jaggies. I did however like my ATI 5750 card and a my go back to it depending on what I can get this NVIDIA 460 to do. You should note I'm running FS9 maxed out averaging 46 frames with just minimal addons like fleet library planes.

OK here is my report;
At night flying the Air creation ultra light over Las Vegas at night I got between 50 and 90 frames per Sec. I had everything maxed [almost]. This so far is the best I have seen on FSX from any of my computers.

Try running autility called Nvidia Inspector. do a quick google search for fsx related articles on it and you will find some nice seeting to run to get rid of the jaggies with the newest drivers for it.
