I'm looking into building a rig that can run FSX at its' full potential + extras. This is what I've built so far. Advice and ideas are welcome!

My subtotal (before rebates and including a case for everything) is $1,251.89, but getting it to around $1,000 would be great, but not 100% needed.

Looks pretty good, but I have a couple of suggestions:
VGA Card- Maybe go for something like a 460/470 (just suggesting, not really necessary)
If you are trying to save money, you can drop the sound card, as the MB already has 7.1 audio built in.
Besides that, I don't really see anything else, just make sure that the CPU cooler can handle a good OC because FSX likes that.

Sound card is a backup after my current one died out of nowhere, but it's certainly still an option to remove it. Video cards I'm still looking at; the current one is just the one I have now for it. For the fan, it looks good enough for me. Thanks for your suggestions! Much appreciated

Does anybody have any benchmark data on a 10,000 RPM, 32mb cache drive vs a 7,200 RMP 64 mb cache drive? I elected to *not* get the Velociraptor in favor of the latter, 64mb cache drive (1TB), but am curious what sort of performance difference there is between the two?
I can tell you tat the OCZ Vertex 2 drive will be awesome. I run my OS only off of it and it is amazingly quick.
The cooler, if it's anything like mine, is going to be massive, so just make sure you've got enough room in your case for it (you probably do, but worth confirming). There's a pic in my PC build thread http://www.deltava.org/thread.do?id=0x1801b

For now, the current CPU is adequate for me, but nothing is finalized yet. It's going to come down to a balance between power and money, with a bit more emphasis on power.
