Hello,

I have an hardware question. I'm looking for a new rig and with the i7 processor the ram is either dual or triple channel. Triple being better.
If I go for the first generation of i7 900 serie I could get triple channel, but right now intel is offering a second generation of i7 and I'm looking at the 2600k. The processor handle only dual channel.

So what would be better: an older proc with triple channel or a newer proc with dual channel?

Thanks for the advice!

Actually, the CPU itself is fine, it's the motherboards that support the 2nd generation i7's that have been recalled. They have an issue with the SATA II ports, that could cause them to degrade over time. The new mobo's aren't expected until April. To answer your question, I would go with the with the 2nd generation i7's and the dual channel memmory, because the benefits of the newer processor outweigh the benefits of the triple channel memmory.
